Personal service, hospitality and attention to detail. Fly SWISS
We all know that time flies and in a blink of eye I am ready to fly to Italy again so I can spend the holidays with my family. And this year there is something more excting. I'll be meeting my newborn nephew for the first time!
For this 2016 trip I booked my Flight with Swiss. I was used to travel with this company when it was still Swissair and I always loved the connecting time in Zurich.
Actually I like to connect flights in Zurich! And now it's even better than before with the SkyMetro Train that takes you from the satellite gates E to the main site of the airport where gates A,B and D are located.

Booking the flight
I used the booking center on this site and clicked on Swiss and voila' I was taken directly to the Swiss Offer Page (you can do it right here...just click).
I booked flight LX38 SFO to ZRH connecting in Zurich with flight LX1622 to MXP (Milan Malpensa) on economy class. Then I upgraded to a premium economy seat with more legroom and priority boarding adding $99 to the ticket.
Not bad for a more comfortable trip!
The layover was just a little more than 1 hour however I reached the new gate in less that 30 minutes and that include the passport control point.

Onboard
The airplane used from SFO to ZHR was a A340-300 which is a four engine long haul jet perfect for long distance trip. The crew was very nice and attentive to the customer needs.
My seat 23B was in good condition, a little bit tight due to the screen TV and the table stored in the right arm chair however was reclining perfectly. That added to the extra legroom gave me the feeling of an almost flat bed for my sleep.
As soon as the seatbelt light was turned off the flight attendants started serving dinner. There was a choice of vegeterian recipe or something with meat. I opted for the meat and I was presented with a chicken sausage with steamed broccoli and potato croquettes. Also there was bread with butter and a slice of cheese with salad as a side. The dessert was a nice square of brownie.
I would say plenty of food and beverages. I didn't watch any movie so no report on the selection however the screen is wide enough and people can regulate the brightness to a personal more comfortable level. During the 10 hours flight the crew personnel were often walking around carrying trays with water. Orange juice or soda was available on request.
Swiss welcomes passengers with a nice pillow, blanket and ear phones but no sleeping mask.

Before landing....
About 2 hours before landing all the lights on the aircraft were ON again and breakfast was served. There was a croissant, bread with jam and butter, a slice of cheese, yogurt, water and orange juice. The coffee was hot and very good. I had two cups because I needed some caffeine although I have to say I slept very well thanks also to a sleeping-aid pill.
We landed in Zurich almost on time.

Connecting in Zurich...
Soon I was out of the aircraft, in the passenger jet bridge going towards the airport. All the signs are very clear and in notime I was standing at the Sky Metro station which is the train that takes you from the satellite E gates to the A,B and D gates at the main airport section. Yes, you need to take a nice walk but after 10 hours seating inside a metal tube it made me feel good! I reached the passport control point somewhat fast and then proceeded to the gate "A" for my flight to Mlan Malpensa. Again excellent signs guided me there. The flight took off in time and 45 minutes later I was landing in Milan to meet with my family waiting for me at the arrivals.
Final Review
I really tried to find something wrong during both flights but I came up with only 2 little disappointments:
Till the next one...have a safe holiday trip!
- The missing sleeping mask which is offered on all the major air companies flights.
- The seat had good legroom space but felt a little crampy due to the TV screen and the table stored in the right side armchair.
