Next up on our Staycation 2021, we are off to Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. This week, if it wasn’t for international travel restrictions, we should be in Universal Orlando Resort, which includes the fabulous The Wizarding World of Harry Potter. However, Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter is, in my opinion, better!

It probably isn’t a fair comparison as the two attractions are entirely different. However, Universal Studios Florida still calls itself a studio, but you learn nothing about how movies are made. Big E-Ticket attractions take preference over movie-making information. Universal Orlando focuses on big Harry Potter-themed rides, and there are no rides at the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London. Yes, rides including Escape from Gringotts and Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure are some of the very best in the world; plus, the theming of Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade is sensational, but it isn’t the real thing!

At the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London, you see the actual Harry Potter sets. So when you walk down Diagon Alley or visit the Great Hall, it is the same set that Daniel Radcliffe and Emma Watson also stood on. The Great Hall, Gringotts, Diagon Alley, Platform 9 3/4, and Forbidden Forest are just some of the actual movie sets you will walk down. Plus, you learn loads about how the Harry Potter film series was made.

There are helpful information boards and monitors throughout the tour. However, to gain the most, you should purchase a personal audio guide. Through short videos starring cast and crew, you will learn details of how the movies were put together. This information makes me feel that Warner Bros. Studio Tour London is a more satisfying experience than Universal Orlando.

We visited Warner Bros. Studio Tour London during social distancing, and the attraction overall was well managed. All guests were temperature screened before admission, and the guest capacity was significantly reduced. We have visited the attraction in regular times, and it was evident that crowds were much lighter. Despite this, there were odd points that crowds did huddle together a bit too much. Also, a few guests appeared a little forgetful with their face masks!

If you want “Big Theme Park Thrills,” then you can’t go wrong with any of the Universal Studios Parks around the world. However, if you want a more educational but still fun experience, then you should check out Warner Bros. Studio Tour London – The Making of Harry Potter. For “a proper movie-making experience,” it can’t be beaten.

Do you have to be a Harry Potter fan to visit?

You might be wondering whether you have to be a Harry Potter Fan to visit Warner Bros. Studio Tour? I have never been a fan of Harry Potter!

I have never read the books and have only watched a few of the films. However, I am interested in how movies are put together. While Harry Potter fans will gain a lot from the tour, it can also be enjoyed by anyone interested in movie production.
