Suncadia Resort: The Ultimate Pet-Friendly Vacation Rental in Central Washington

I’ve recently become a full on snow person. Having spent this winter in the Pacific Northwest with a relatively flexible schedule this year, I sought out opportunities to play in the snow. Sora and I went snowshoeing every chance we had. We found frozen waterfalls and gained confidence gliding over ungroomed surfaces on cross country skis.

A problem I ran into, however, was locating dog-friendly places to go with Sora. Plenty exist, but with the fickle snow this season, it often meant traveling far distances to reach a high enough elevation to find decent snow. And then we had to worry about avalanches. When I learned about Suncadia Resort and the variety of pet-friendly outdoor activities, I knew we were in for a fun winter retreat.

Suncadia Resort

Located just 80 miles from Seattle, outside the town of Roslyn, Suncadia Resort is a luxury all-season mountain hotel and condominium resort. Adjacent to the eastern slopes of the Cascade mountains, the adventure stoke is high, with outdoor activities like hiking, paddle boarding, and kayaking in the summer and snowshoeing, cross country skiing, and tubing in the winter.

Visitors looking for a pet-friendly vacation rental can opt to stay in one of three different locations: The Inn at Suncadia, the Lodge at Suncadia, or choose from a variety of custom Cle Elum vacation rental homes. Nearly half of the rentals allow pets!

Pet-Friendly Amenities at Suncadia

Suncadia understands that leaving our pets behind is tough, both financially and emotionally, and welcomes pets to the community. In the summer, your four-legged buddy is welcome to join you on hikes, kayaking, or paddle boarding. When winter hits, head out for a snowshoeing adventure. There is also a large fenced dog park near the entrance to the community for pups to pay together or burn off some energy off-leash.

In fact, dogs are welcome nearly everywhere in the community (on leash!) aside from the golf course and the restaurants.

We stayed in the beautiful 2,500 sq ft 280 Cake Box home during our visit. Perfect for a group of family or friends to gather for a few days of fun, this home features four bedrooms and can sleep up to 13 people. The spacious kitchen came well-equipped for preparing large meals and the cozy couch could easily accommodate 10 people huddled around the fireplace after a day of playing outdoors.

Each bedroom came with a comfortable bed and the two with attached bathrooms had radiant floor heating, a welcome amenity when you’re accustomed to cold tile first thing in the morning! The backyard features a hot tub and fire pit and the large yard sits along a tranquil stream.

All vacation rentals include access to the swim and fitness center, advance tee time bookings on the golf course, intra-resort charging, resort transportation, and concierge and bell service.

Dog-Friendly Winter Activities at Suncadia

The weather gods came through on their promise during our stay, delivering several inches of fresh powder over our first night and throughout the following day, creating ideal conditions for the winter activities we sought.

We tried snowshoeing first, on the Nelson Creek Trail to the Fish Shed, located behind the lodge, which began with a dramatic overlook into the Wenatchee National Forest. The fresh snow had coated the thousands of evergreens with a dusting of powdered sugar. Strips of clouds weaved through the trees and around the mountains. The well-marked trail continued through drooping trees, branches weighed down from the heavy snow, eventually leading to the Cle Elum river. Passing the fish shed made Sora’s day, as she discovered one of her favorite delicacies–rotten fish guts leftover from fishermen. Delicious.

The following day, we hit the cross country trail, which uses groomed paths along the golf course. The undulating hills made for a great workout among the beautiful homes and fields of white.

*A caveat for those wanting to cross country ski with their dogs is that is that dogs are sort of allowed, meaning if you go on a day like we did, when there were no other people using the groomed paths, then it’s ok. On slow days with more people, just try to keep them to the side and off the tracks as much as possible. If the trails are busy, it’s probably best to avoid the trails at Suncadia and instead head to nearby Coal Mines Trail.

You can rent cross country skis and snowshoes from the gear shop for $25/2-hr & $40/24-hr and $18/2-hr & $30/24-hr, respectively. A fun tour I wish we had had time for was the guided Snowshoe + Brew, an 8-mile excursion that includes a visit to The Brick Saloon, Washington’s oldest operating saloon (must be booked 48 hours in advance).

Looking Forward to Visiting Again

Suncadia Resort offers year-round fun for anyone looking for a luxurious pet-friendly vacation. With Cle Elum an up and coming outdoor recreation area just over an hour drive from Seattle, there is no shortage of fun adventures to be had with your furry best friend.
