Aloha Friday Photo: The shore of Kahanamoku Lagoon

Mahalo to Christine Renton for sharing this Aloha Friday Photo that she took in 2015 on a trip to celebrate a 25th anniversary.

The shoreline that you see in Christine’s photo is part of Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon in Waikiki  beside Hilton Hawaiian Village. It’s a lovely, saltwater lagoon named after Hawaii’s beloved and famous waterman, Duke Kahanamoku. This man-made lagoon offers sheltered swimming away from the ocean waves.

Another fun fact about Duke Kahanamoku Lagoon is that it’s the spot where Hilton Hawaiian Village’s fireworks light up the skies on Friday nights.

And, speaking of fireworks, it’s almost New Year’s Eve! Tomorrow, we’ll have a post with a roundup of all the New Year’s Eve fireworks in Hawaii.

Happy Aloha Friday!
