New York is, no doubt, one of the most beautiful cities in the world and is visited by travelers throughout the year. It is also definitely one of the most densely populated cities in the United States. This means that people from all religions and regions live here. Hence, there are a lot of festivals celebrated in the city. One of the most extravagantly celebrated festivals is Halloween. Halloween in New York is the chance for people to come together and take a break from their busy life and schedule. Halloween is that time when people whip out their spookiest costumes and dive into the Halloween spirit. 1. Village Halloween Parade

Who does not love a Parade on Halloween? The Village Halloween Parade is one of the best Halloween parades you will witness. Each year, the parade has a different theme and people dressed up in costumes join in and have the time of their lives. So, hit the costume store before heading out for the parade because you do not want to feel left out when thousands of people show up in the most extravagant costumes. There is also music in addition to loads of fun.

Admission - There is no admission charge for attending or watching the parade.

2. Halloween Haunted Houses Tour

New York has numerous haunted places. Most of these are available during the Halloween season and are sure to send chills down your spine. Some of the most visited haunted houses are the Blood Manor, and this is real. There is an all-time haunted house called the Times Scares that is located in the Times Square. The thrill seekers love it. Each of these places has their own specialty that is, no doubt, terrifying.

Admission - There is an entry ticket for each haunted house tour. You can either buy it online or at the venue.

3. The Halloween New York Dog Parade

How can one forget their furry friends during this colorful and exciting festival? Hence, there is a New York Dog Parade organized every year on Halloween. People dress up their dogs in cute Halloween costumes and walk around the area. If you are an animal lover, this will be the best experience of your life. Hundreds of animals and their owners attend this parade. This is also the largest dog costume parade in the world. 

Admission - The dog parade takes place at Tompkins Square Park and can be attended by anyone.

4. Halloween In New York’s American Museum of Natural History

Every Halloween, the New York Museum of Natural History opens all its sections to celebrate Halloween. Different activities such as trick or treat, art & craft, museum tour, pumpkin carving, performances and spooky storytelling are organized by the museum for children of all ages. Even adults can visit the museum and enjoy some of the Halloween fun.

Admission - The museum entry charges apply to everyone. 

5. Ghouls and Gourds

Ghouls and Gourds is another family-friendly event organized at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. This event includes lots of Halloween outdoor activities such as art & crafts, performances, and circus-style events. Kids can also participate in the costume parade where you will see numerous kids dressed up in cute costumes. There are also puppets and stilt walkers as an additional attraction for children. The event usually happens during the day and involves plenty of fun for kids and their parents.

Admission - The entry ticket is applicable for adults as well as children and can be bought at the event website or the venue.

6. The Queen Country Farm Events

The Queen Country Farm hosts two Halloween events for families to have fun together on Halloween in New York. These events include the Amazing Maize Maze and Children’s Fall Festival. Both these events are for all kids and their families. In the maze, you will need to find clues to get out of a complicated Maize-Maze. In Children’s Fall Festival, you will find things like the bounce horse, sack race and many more such activities for children. However, if you have older children of 5-12 years, you can also visit the Haunted House. They also keep on adding new activities for families every year.

7. The Haunted Bars

Most people go to the Bars that have pretentious scary decorations to celebrate Halloween. However, there are lots of bars around Manhattan that are haunted. So, you can visit these bars on Halloween nights and have your taste of spooky.  

8. Halloween In New York Zombie Crawl

Who does not fancy bar crawls? If you are amongst these people, you should not miss the zombie crawl that happens on the night of Halloween in New York. People dress up as zombies and visit bars. The bars have music, food, and Halloween-themed drinks. You can also get your makeup done at these places and dance the night away.

Admission - Each venue has a separate entry ticket which can be bought online or at the venue.

9. Spooky Experience at Ripley’s Believe It or Not Odditorium

Ripley’s Believe it, or Not Odditorium is one of the scariest places that one can visit any time of the year. However, when combined with the Halloween festival, this becomes one of the terrifying attractions of the city. The exhibits are scary, and you can see numerous unbelievable performances during your visit. We would only suggest you visit the Odditorium if you can handle a ton of spooky.

Admission - Tickets to the Ripley’s Believe it or Not Odditorium are available online as well as at the Venue.

10. Halloween Ghost Tours

Another one of the most exciting activities to participate in New York on Halloween is the ghost tours. New York has been inhabited since ages ago, and history says that there are a lot of spooky things in the city that might catch your attention if you try to find them. Even if you do not, the thrill of the tour will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. You can join the touring groups and take a candlelit tour at the Merchant’s House Museum or explore the Island of Lost Souls.

Halloween in New York is as colorful an event as the city itself. Every café, restaurant, and bar has some or the other kind of Halloween celebration. There are also events for children and people who do not like to party. Special music concerts are also held during the season. The festivities start about ten days ahead of Halloween and last until early November.
