With a view of promoting tourism in Maharashtra, several districts have come up with commercializing their festivals which were earlier restricted only to their communities. Introduced 8 years ago by then minister Dr. Sunil Deshmukh, the Chikhaldara Tourism Festival in Amravati is a week-long festival which used to be celebrated for a short duration of three days. After an exhilarating response from nature lovers, tourists and vacationers, this festival is now on stage for a whole week! This year the Chikhaldara Tourism festival is scheduled to be held from February 12-18, 2017. The festival was revived last year, keeping in mind the potential it has to general revenue, as per the tourism industry.
This frolic filled festival entails a food festival, adventure sports like parasailing, rappelling, hiking and trekking and more. A picture exhibition on Melghat’s biodiversity will be the special features this year. This humble yet starry festival is a platform for tribal population for showcasing their bamboo art and forms of folk culture. It also helps in employment generation as items made by tribals are sold at the festival. Nature lovers and tourists must gear up for a treat and marvel at this festival!
