SKINCARE DURING LOCKDOWN

Hello there! Today I would like to talk to you about Skin during lockdown, and a few things we all tend to forget when it comes to skincare during those unfortunate times. No matter what we’re into, we all want our skin to look (and feel) healthy and happy. So, here are a few things to pay attention to when staying at home:

  1. INTERNAL CLOCK
Everyone has an internal clock that synchronizes all our biological functions. When it’s desynchronized, we can see some dryness, irritation, unevenness on our skin. The process of cell turnover that is supposed to happen every 30 days goes is down as well. Try to keep to a similar schedule every day.
  2. YOUR SKIN REQUIRES 7.5-8 HOURS TO RESTORE
Levels of the stress hormone cortisol fall during sleep, which helps skin repair daytime damage. The body makes more collagen, which minimizes fine lines. More human growth hormone is released, increasing muscle mass and strengthening the skin. Put your devices on Night Mode as much as possible too (he does so permanently), in order to reduce the HEV light that reaches your skin in the first place.
  3. BLUE LIGHT
Blue light is a high energy visible (HEV) light that can lead to elastin and collagen damage, pigment changes, and ultimately photo-aging. HEV light generates similar amounts of reactive free radicals, as UVA and UVB rays combined. It is a host of skin issues, including inflammation, sensitivity, dryness, and uneven skin texture.
  4. ARTIFICIAL ENVIROMENT (aka A/C)
It is a nightmare for our skin, as it dehydrates and can even compromise the bilayer structure of the barrier function. As a result, skin tries to compensate [for dehydration] by slowing skin cell turnover, which makes the outer dead skin layer thicker, and while that helps a little, it can make the skin look dull and flaky.
  5. SKIPPING SPF
UVA rays are present all year round and are responsible for premature aging, plus they penetrate through glass, meaning you should still be wearing SPF whilst inside. Treating your skin with antioxidant-rich moisturizers like our will help boost the effects of your SPF.
  6. OUR SKIN REFLECTS OUR DIET
Dairy, Animal fat, Sugar + Alcohol. While animal fat, sugar and alcohol affect your skin when consumed in access, according to dermatologists in 3 countries (and my esthetician), DAIRY is the absolute worst of them all. Clogged pores, inflammation, breakouts = dairy (you know how much it hurts, I love charcuterie boards).
  7. NOT DRINKING ENOUGH WATER
That means: a glass of warm water with lemon in the morning at least 20 minutes before breakfast (to help our biological functions).
Drinking enough water through the day +
cup of coffee = extra glass of water
glass of wine = extra glass of water
exercise = extra glass of water.
