Most famous movie scenes in Central Park and where they were filmed

Hollywood in Central Park: Ten iconic movie scenes filmed in                                              Central Park

We all miss our favorite Park – the places, the sights, the tours, and all the people there. But it is most important to stay safe. However there is one great alternative to visit those places and that is by our favorite movies. Hollywood might be on the West Coast nearly 3000 miles away but it sure took its fair share of “visits” in New York’s most beloved park.

Here are ten of our favorite movies that paid Central Park “a visit”:

But first – honorable mentions: Maid in Manhattan, 27 Dresses, Big Daddy, Elf, Enchanted, Kramer vs. Kramer, Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Muppets Take Manhattan, Hair, and many more!
10. Spider-Man 3

Spider-Man is amongst the most beloved superheroes, and is a New York native. A huge part of the movie takes place in Manhattan and one of the signature scenes in Spider-Man 3 where Mary Jane breaks up with Peter takes place on Bow Bridge.

9. Night at the Museum

What can make the American Museum of Natural History any cooler? How about the models on display going alive due to an ancient Egyptian Curse? Good guess. Ben Stiller wasn’t very amused, though, when he had to deal with Attila, Octavius, Jedediah, and Rexy.

8. Friends with benefits

As we’ve seen above – Central Park is a romantic place (we saw it once, we’ll see it again), especially when it serves as a dating ground for Justin Timberlake and Mila Kunis. Just imagine those two casually walking down the Mall, laughing. “No emotions…”

7. Wall Street

You know something’s going on when you have Oliver Stone, Michael Douglas, Charlie Sheen, and Daryl Hannah in New York. And it’s not a wild party, it’s corporate drama, involving airlines, stocks and millions of dollars. The final scenes are filmed the Sheep Meadow and Tavern on The Green.

6. When Harry Met Sally…

One of the best (if not the very best) romantic comedies, discussing an insolvable topic like the friendship between a man and a woman. Billy Cristal and Meg Ryan go through a rollercoaster of emotions and events to prove if this there can or cannot such a friendship exists. They can be seen strolling in autumn Central Park, or having lunch at Boathouse restaurant

5. Léon: The Professional

Is there a best place for a star like Natalie Portman to be born than Central Park? No, we don’t think so, either. When her family gets killed by corrupted DEA agent Garry Oldman, she turns to Jean Reno help her find revenge. Reno takes her under his wing and teaches her the hitman trade. One of their classes involved shooting with a sniper on a rooftop at Columbus Circle.

4. Serendipity

It is a fancy word for “happy accidents”. Another great love story, this time between John Cusack and Kate Beckinsale, involving a lot of the mentioned above accidents – like reaching for the same pair of gloves. At the end faith has its word, and the $5 bill reaches Cusack. In the end they meet at the Wollman Ice Skating rink.

3. Avengers

Marvel characters sure have a thing on Central Park. We congratulate them on their good taste! The final scene, where Thor receives The Tesseract (and the gagged Loki) is shot on the top of Bethesda Terrace.

2. Ghost Busters

If there's something strange in your neighborhood. Who you gonna call? Ghostbusters! Especially if the neighborhood is Manhattan. Iconic scenes include Tully running from a demon dog through Central Park up to Tavern on the Green, and the building with the creepy tower at 55 Central Park West.

1.Home Alone 2

We’re all home, the fridge is stuffed…let’s turn the TV on and if we see Kevin McAllister then it’s Christmas. Jokes aside, but this cult holiday classic has its fair share of action in Central Park. Here Kevin meets the “Sticky Bandits” at The Bethesda Fountain, and The Bird Lady on Gapstow Bridge. And Donald Trump at The Plaza Hotel.

So, if you have a lot of free time and you miss your favorite picnic place or lane, sit back, relax and enjoy some of those all-time greats. And above all – stay safe!
