Door of the Month: 16 rue du Louvre

I posted this door at the beginning of my Door of the Month series in July 2008.

The reason why I am featuring it again is because the building and the door were recently renovated. The metal on the door has been polished and the wrought iron repainted. Someone left a comment when I first posted the door, saying it was designed by Frantz Jourdain, a Belgian architect and architecture critic.

One of his most prestigious commissions was the redesign of La Samaritaine department store on rue de Rivoli and later on an extension of two other La Samaritaine stores and a new branch of La Samaritaine, La Samaritaine de Luxe on Boulevard de Capucines near the Opera.

La Sameuse, the building at 16 rue du Louvre, was a consumer credit union owned by La Samaritaine and built between 1910-12 in the Art Nouveau style, which Jourdain was a theoretician of.

The building today is mostly offices.
