From the moment I set foot on New Zealand soil I fell in love with the country.
I travelled with a friend to Wellington to catch up with a resident Kiwi. We decided to buy a car to travel the South Island to explore the awe-inspiring scenery and adventure on offer.
We took the ferry from Wellington to Picton before stopping in Nelson, hiking the Abel Tasman National Park, conquering Franz Josef Glacier and driving to Lake Tekapo and Mount Cook before skiing down the slopes of Wanaka and Queenstown.
Queenstown is the adrenaline capital of the world so make sure to bungee jump or take the “plunge into the deep” with the canyon swing.
From Queenstown we drove all the way down to Invercargill before heading up the east coast back to Wellington. We stopped in Dunedin where we visited the Speight’s Brewery and the Cadbury chocolate factory.
In Christchurch, we decided to get a tattoo before making our way to our final destination in the South Island – Kaikoura.
After leaving Kaikoura we headed back to Picton from where we took the ferry back to Wellington to spend a few more days with our Kiwi resident.
After a few to many pavlovas and meals of fish and chips it was time it was time to say: “Haere rā”
