01/11/2015 - One moody day in November with the last dregs of our money, we set out on a day trip from Wellington in our campervan armed only with a woolly hat, a flask of instant coffee, our cheese sandwiches and a tank of petrol. The motorway wound through the Rimutaka forest clad mountains and we sped past the vineyards of Martinborough, being too poor to stop on this occasion. The route took us along the coast and past many a creepy church....

We had embarked on this journey on the promise of a lighthouse. We were not disappointed.

We had hoped to find the all season seal colony and after a few false alarms, it seemed like a bomb filled with hungover seals had gone off.
