14/04/2016 - We trekked to Luxmore Hut, a 30km long but relatively easy day walk from Te Anau. This route forms the first day of Kepler Track, one of New Zealand's hailed Great Walks. Rugged terrain and low storm clouds reminiscent of the Yorkshire moors overlook lake Te Anau and the surrounding mountains. Book ahead and stay overnight at the hut or if going back the same way you came is too boring for you, arrange a boat taxi to expedite the journey back.
