After the blizzard conditions of the Icefield Parkways, it was high time for a bit of sun and bright blue skies. The perfectly still melting waters of Vermillion Lakes just outside of Banff town did not fail to deliver.

Just a short stroll from Banff and the perfect spot to enjoy a morning coffee or a picnic style brunch.

I've gone for something a little different in this selection of photos. This vibrant bunch are a far cry from previous photographs which showcase a much more bleak and inhospitable place.

Vermillion Lake

I discovered recently a photographer called Ben Mulder on Instagram whose style revolves around bright colours, reflections and sunsets so I thought that I would try and go for that kind of effect more in some of my photos. Check out his Instagram profile at!

This was actually the day that the three amigos (pictured below) left Banff and then there were only two left on the road trip. We thought that we would try and squeeze a bit of exploring in before the drive to Calgary airport.

It turned out to be one of my favourite days with a surprise mid afternoon visitor of the ornithological kind who caused quite a hoot! I'll introduce you next time so keep your eyes peeled for the next edition of the Curious Footprints blog!
