The hike to the top of Sulphur Mountain takes approximately 2 hours along a windy path and is a short drive from the Banff township. If you don't feel like doing it all over again to get down, you can simply get the Sulphur Mountain gondola back to the bottom. If you time it early enough in the season, you can get a free ride down which is good because the tickets for the gondola are pretty heftily priced.
Don't expect to immerse yourself in the wilderness on this hike. At the top there are all the amenities that you would expect from a Banff tourist attraction... a gift shop and a Starbucks coffee shop etc. However, on a clear day there are also fantastic panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and of Banff itself.
An alternative is the shorter hike up Tunnel Mountain pictured in the centre of the photograph above. To a certain extent, in early April you are limited in terms of the hikes with open trailheads so these are two of the main options available. Prepare for Arctic conditions at the top!
