These photographs were taken on what was officially the most successful day of wildlife photography on my adventures so far. You'd be forgiven for thinking this was a wolf as I first thought however Tour Guide Joe quickly brought me back down to earth.
Joe from Jasper Tour Company pointed out two key differences between Coyotes and Wolves. 1) Coyotes tend to be smaller than their Wolf cousins; 2) Coyotes have big bushy tails that Wolves do not have.
These two beautiful coyotes hung around for near 10 minutes, continuously sniffing the air as they caught the scent of what must have been a particularly tantalising treat. They did not seem to mind my presence at all as I ogled them through my long lens.
You do not necessarily need to take a tour in order to see Coyotes. Coyotes are in fact incredibly adaptable creatures and live in cities as well as in the bush. If you do take a tour however I cannot recommend the Jasper Tour Company enough. Tour guide Joe is extremely knowledgable and if one thing is certain, it is that you will see a lot more wildlife with him than without him. He understands wildlife behaviour so intuitively and can predict where the wildlife will be hanging out in any given season.
...And as swiftly as they arrived on the scene, they were back on the hunt and on their way!
