As the sun was setting on Vancouver summertime, a paddle boarder stole one last paddle before the autumn had chance to assert its hold on the city. The Sunset Beach and English Bay sections of the seawall are some of my favourite spots whatever the time of year. In summer people loiter on the beach until dusk playing volleyball, reading books, rollerblading. Herons sunbathe on boulders and it isn't unusual to spy a whale in the distance. This summer I spotted a sea otter writhing in the sea. In winter however the seawall still sees a lot of action. Dog walkers and runners patrol the pathway and the Cargo Ships Dwell all year round. In the early evening, skunks head away from the beach into the urban jungle and by day raccoons raid the bins.
