People promised Champagne pow and so champagne powder we did get. Snowflakes with kaleidescopic and very individual patterns fell upon our coats. The reason why? Because the Big White Ski Resort, close to Kelowna has an extreme and dry climate both in winter and summer. In Winter the temperatures drop as low as -30 F and in Summer reach highs of 40 c. This lends itself to incredibly fine granules of powdery snow but you need to wrap up and cover your face to prevent frostbite!
We got pretty luck with the weather. Big White is known for it's Big White Out reputation however we got some sunny days and blue skies.
The Big White has a large ski area coupled with a quaint village and what is even better is that you can ski in and ski out of a lot of accommodation options so you can pop back for lunch and when we were too full and lazy on Christmas Day to venture out, we could just watch people whizz by from the comfort of our warm, cozy cabin. The photo below was taken from the balcony area of our digs.
