Just in! American Express has let us know that the Platinum Charge card now also offers Plaza Premium lounge access alongside the existing Priority Pass, Virgin Australia, Amex Centurion and Delta Skyclub benefits.
Plaza Premium lounges can be found worldwide – there aren’t many of them but they are generally high quality – and there are two in Australia, in Sydney and Brisbane (pictured above) International departures areas.
Here’s what Amex had to say – and this is about the extent of the information we have for now:
Our Centurion and Platinum Card Members can gain access to Plaza Premium Lounges for themselves and up to one guest by simply presenting their Centurion Card upon arrival. Additional guests not eligible for complimentary guest access will be charged to their Card at the published lounge entry fee (this varies by lounge).
This is applicable across Plaza Premium Lounges at major airports including Hong Kong, Abu Dhabi, Kuala Lumpur, London Heathrow, New Delhi, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, Toronto and Vancouver. The Plaza Premium Lounges are in over 50 locations.
The full list of Plaza Premium lounges is here. The Sydney lounge is actually a SkyTeam lounge operated by Plaza Premium, and given the American Express Sydney Lounge is next door, it’s interesting to note that Sydney appears to be on the list.
Plaza Premium lounge access, for some of their lounges, is also provided by Priority Pass membership – Plaza Premium are known more as a lounge operator and otherwise generally run pay for access lounges rather than their own membership program.
This is a great new benefit for the American Express Platinum Charge card – we’ll get stuck into researching the best Plaza Premium lounges next week and update this guide accordingly as we find out more.
