7 Ways to Save Money for a Vacation

Traveling can be expensive and it's hard to hold onto Money for something that feels unobtainable. However, by following a few simple tips you can soon save enough to go on that trip you've been waiting for!

1. Each pay period, have money directly deposited into a savings account just for travel purposes. Not only will this money be secured only for travel, your decrease in disposable income will make you pay closer attention to your day-to-day spending. For an extra wad of cash check out your bank account right now. Do you have enough to make your bills and then some? Put whatever is left over in the vacation account now and vow not to touch it. Just be careful to avoid overdraft fees.

2. Have a hard budget for groceries and make your own meals, no dining out. The occasional night out with your friends or significant other won't kill you, but you should make decisions on how much you are willing to spend before you go out. Also, a nice candlelit, home-cooked dinner can be much more romantic than a night out.

3. Pick up those extra hours at work or that second job you have your eye on. Keep a photo or some kind of reminder around that each extra hour put in gets you that much closer to your vacation. Additionally, you could start a travel blog (beware it can be a lot of work) or find some work online, like web design.

4. Instead of fun gifts from friends or family ask for a donation to your vacation fund. Make sure to give them a shout out when you end up going! If you don't feel comfortable asking for money, ask that they give you something you needed to buy anyway such as a kitchen appliance. Gift cards work wonders and are a little less awkward than asking for money. Ask for a gift card to a generic store so you can get stuff cheap or maybe a gas card.

5. Put your vacation on GoFundMe or another fundraising website. This way you can easily provide a way for both friends and strangers to send you money for your trip. This works very well if you are planning a mission trip or if you're in college and the trip can be related to school in some way.

6. Have a garage sale or sell stuff you don't need anymore on Ebay. If you have any skills in crafting or art you can make an Etsy store to sell stuff you create.

7. Use coupons! I know they are time consuming and annoying, but seriously budget shopping helps. You can also sign up to review products or take surveys for extra cash to pad your vacation fund.

Good luck with the savings and have fun on your next big trip. The time and effort really pays off in the end.

Thanks for listening!
