The Pondicherry Government has finally taken a decision to renovate all the Government Museums in the city. Indian Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage (INTACH) has been given the responsibility for the complete renovation work. As a first step, the government authorities have asked to start the renovation of two museums which is considered as the “Jewels of Pondicherry”.

What is the Cause of Renovation?

What is the reason for renovation of these two museums? Yes, the main aim for renovating these Government Museums is to preserve the Union Territory’s cultural and architectural heritage and attract large number of tourists to the city. The museum situated in Saint Louis Street holds a number of showcasing sculptures, French furniture, historical art pieces and much more. Further, the other museum on Romain Rolland Street creates a stunning appearance with its rare artifacts belonging to Pallava and Chola Dynasties, rare paintings and so on.

Before the renovation process, the Government authorities along with cooperation of French historians, archaeologists and museologists made a deep research of the changes to be made on the museum. Added to this, the authorities have also planned to renovate the lighting system so as to offer a better lighting facility for the public. Some of the other facilities to be added in the museum include Luggage counters, ticket counters, toilets and security system.
