WDW 50th Anniversary Foodie Guide - Part 1

The Most Magical Celebration on Earth kicked off on Friday, October 1st to celebrate 50 years of the Walt Disney World Resort in central Florida.  While this celebration came with lots of great things, one of the many was over 100 new food items to try across the parks and resorts.  While we haven't come close to trying them all yet, we did our best to start making a dent in them! Over the next 18 months as this celebration continues, our agents will continue to add to this series with our thoughts on more of the great food options offered from fun desserts to Walt's favorites.

Amorette’s Patisserie (Disney Springs)

50th Celebration Petit Cake – Vanilla chiffon cake with celebration blue mousse, blueberry jam, and lemon curd

Okay I'm definitely starting off with one of the strongest items I've tried so far.  This cake is so beautiful to look at it almost hurt to cut into it, but then we did and the inside was gorgeous too! The layers are such vibrant blue hues it is really a delight for the eyes.  The cake is moist but light and the flavors really compliment one another.  The cake is covered in fondant which isn't usually a favorite but I didn't find this one to taste too bad at all.  I would go out of my way to get this again.


The Hollywood Brown Derby (Hollywood Studios)

Filet Mignon with Walt’s Hash topped with an egg (just the way Walt liked it!)

Onto something savory next we included a filet with Walt's Hash in our meal at the Hollywood Brown Derby one evening.  While I found the filet to be quite frankly, nothing special, the hash was definitely a fun and unique side.  It is definitely something special to have "Walt's" anything on a plate so that did elevate the dish for sure.  If you are stopping by Brown Derby, we also always recommend the Cobb Salad!


Citricos Lounge (Grand Floridian)

Magical Beacon Cocktail – Gin, blue curaçao, Minute Maid Premium Lemonade, orgeat (almond) syrup, lemon, hibiscus grenadine, and a souvenir glow cube.

This drink can also be found at many other restaurants and lounges around the property, we just happened to have it at Citricos.  This drink is a little on the sweet side but very refreshing.  I was a bit disappointed that the glow cube was standard and not something celebratory.  When I was at Disneyland for the 60th I'm pretty sure they had diamond shaped ones!

Chocolate Torte
Chocolate Financier, Dark Chocolate Ganache, Morello Cherries and Vanilla Mascarpone Cream

While this is a normal menu item from Citricos, it got a bit of a face lift for the 50th.  How pretty is this chocolate dessert?  The chocolate shavings on top are so thin and delicate and then you break through to the lovely cherry filling and more chocolate goodness inside.  A decadent but delightful way to end the meal. 


Cosmic Ray’s Starlight Café (Magic Kingdom)

Mission to Mars – Burger topped with bacon and macaroni & cheese served on a bun dusted with crushed cheese-flavored puffs

This burger was surprisingly delightful.  I thought the addition of the mac and cheese really elevated the burger and the Cheeto dust on top, while messy, did add a little extra kick of flavor.  And of course bacon on a burger always helps in Disney's case. 


Celebration Bundt Cake

Does this look as boring as it tasted?  Skip this. It was a boring chocolate cake that was screaming for something more.


Trolley Car Café (Hollywood Studios)

Glimmer and Shimmer Pineapple Mousse – Golden pineapple mousse on a toasted coconut crisp with caramel cream and matcha sponge cake

This dessert is so pretty but did not hold up well to the elements.  We got it on our way out of the park to have as a late night snack and it was a little smooshy and melty by the time we got back to our hotel.  Unfortunately it just didn't hold up, so I'd have to give it another try.
