Book review: The Tides of Memory

I have been dragging this Book for a while now. It almost took me about 3 weeks to finish this one, a long time indeed! Here’s a quick review of the book.

Rating: ★★★

The plot revolves around the strong lead character of an ‘iron lady’ – Alexia De Vere. Buried deep in her past are a few mistakes that she committed as a young lady, while growing up in America. The journey takes you from her past to the present, where she is becomes a Home Secretary in England and leads a happy family to when her world comes crashing down again. The story is all about family, wealth, friendship, power, politics and loads of suspense.

My Review

Every Sidney Sheldon book is expected to have twists and turns, so does this. I have always been a fan of Sydney Sheldon for the longest time possible, but after his death I didn’t really think I would enjoy the books he co-authored with Tilly Bagshawe. Well, she doesn’t disappoint you either. We have to agree that she is no Sidney Sheldon, but she manages to upholds Sheldon’s legacy with a plot that binds you through the journey of suspense and betrayal.

Though, the introduction of each character might doze you off, the pace catches on as secrets start to reveal. Alexa De Vere is the new Home Secretary of Britain, hated by many including certain members of her family. When a mistake that she committed in her past creeps through present, it’s not just her political career that’s at stake, but her family and reputation too. If you survive through the first half of the book, the rest will leave you on the edge of your seat. Certain characters in the book are introduced with no proper story line and fizzles out with no involvement and unexplained.

Overall, if you get through the first quarter of the book, it will eventually become a page turner. It’s a good read that I enjoyed and keeps you on your toes guessing who and how until the end.
