Top 6 over 50 travel blogs

The kids might have left home, the financial stressors may have released a little and suddenly you have more time on your hands. What to do? These 6 bloggers decided to get up and go, sharing their Adventures with the world along the way. The internet is an abundance of information when it comes to 50+ travel bloggers. These are our favourite 6.

Glamour Granny Travels

Inka Piegsa-Quischotte is an inspiration to all baby boomers who want to get out of their comfort zone and experience life on the road. Born in Germany, Inka spent the beginning of her adult life as an international attorney in the UK and Spain. At some point, she realised that she’d been travelling all over the world for work and seeing absolutely nothing. She sacked the job, sold her house and moved to Turkey. Inka, also known as Glamour Granny, has been travelling ever since. This blog doesn’t only offer beautiful writing and inspiring images, but is filled witha perfect combination of luxury, wellness and adventure. A highly recommended read!

Adventures of empty nesters

We fell in love with this blog when we saw their post about empty nesters and their dogs. Featuring heart-melting pictures of Suzanne and Craig with their furry friend Rocco, we knew immediately that this blog was for us! Launching their blog just over 3 years ago, Suzanne has established a beautiful and popular blog about their adventures throughout the United  States and the rest of the world. As Suzanne says, she started the blog because she wanted to “bring together a global community of people who don’t plan to spend this valuable time in life sitting on the couch!” We couldn’t agree more! Adventures of Empty Nesters also features a restaurants and food section, especially for foodie travellers!

Travel past 50

In 2010, Kristin Henning and Rom Bartel sold all of their possessions, their home, their business and have been travelling the world since. If that doesn’t sound like a dream come true, a few minutes perusing their blog with convince you otherwise. The countries they’ve visited span six continents, with almost all of Europe covered extensively. The aim of this blog is to give all older travellers the tools and advice they need to travel in a way that works for them. As they say, ‘we provide content geared for mature, active, and inquisitive travellers.’ With a strong emphasis on history, the blog also offers plenty of tips in terms of packing, gear and photography.

Over 50 and overseas

This incredible website is geared toward over 50s who are interested in international volunteer and travel opportunities. This is probably the most adventurous of the blogs chosen here, but is definitely not without its pragmatism. A useful resource for all over 50 travellers looking for volunteer work, the blog includes lists of organisations which offer 50+ volunteer opportunities, considerations regarding health and safety and, most excitingly, a blog detailing the experiences of various 50+ volunteers all over the world. Empowering stories from Nepal to Alaska are posted to the blog twice a month and if they aren’t that push you need to pack up and try something new, they’ll certainly be a pleasure to enjoy with a cup of tea at home.

More time to travel

Irene S. Levine is in what she calls the ‘second act’ of her life. She’s always been torn between her two passions: psychology and travel writing. After act 1 as a psychologist, she’s embarked on a fulfilling journey as a freelance travel writer. Irene’s blog offers sections on cruises, food & wine, hotels & spas and even book tips for travellers. More Time to Travel is award-winning and favours luxury travel. From National Parks in the US to vineyards in the south of France, you’ll find an abundance of inspirational material on this website.

Never stop travelling

Jim Ferri, Editor of Never Stop Traveling, has literally never stopped traveling. That makes him an excellent spokesperson for the topic, but the blog is also backed up by a number of contributors who add diversity to the site. The blog features many interesting articles about history, from the monasteries of Meteora to the imperial past of Vienna. There is also an entire section dedicated to cruises for those who want to explore the world by sea.
