Three Reasons to Visit Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa

Three Reasons to Visit Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa (Even if you’re not staying there)

Even if you’re not staying at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort on your next Walt Disney World vacation, it’s definitely still worth taking the time to visit this premium luxury Disney resort hotel. It really is a worthwhile destination all on its own, and who knows…you may just end up liking it enough to stay here next time you visit.

Here are three reasons why it’s worth checking out Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa the next time you’re in the Magic Kingdom neighbourhood.

The inviting lobby at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort.

1. The Lobby at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

While you can get to Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort by boat, bus or monorail, it’s most impressive for your first visit if you enter through the main front doors of the hotel.

Outside you will see the antique car and carriage, which help to set the tone for the upscale Victorian luxury that lies within. You may even want to take a moment for your first photo opp out while you’re there. Then, you’re ready to step inside.

Once you enter the palatial lobby, you’ll quickly understand why Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is the undisputed Crown Jewel of all Walt Disney World hotels. The cavernous lobby—while large—still manages to feel warm and inviting. From the comfortable seating, to the classic adornments, to the Grand sights and smells, it all combines to make you want to say “wow.” I still remember that cool feeling the first time I walked through those doors over 30 years ago, and I still feel that way today each time we check-in.

This lobby is very much a place to kick back and relax, so feel free to take a seat and look around. There is so much to see here that you’ll want to spend a few minutes appreciating the art and design that went into the Imagineering of this highly-desired resort. And if you happen to be visiting at Easter or Christmas, you’ll get an added bonus because this lobby really comes to life even more at these times of year.

2. The Shopping at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

Now that you’re inside, it’s time to do a little shopping (or maybe just browsing, but it’s still a lot of fun).

Scattered throughout the first and second floor of the lobby is a wide range of shops with something to tempt every member of your family. From a gift shop, to sundries, to upscale shops for men and women — and more — you can easily spend an hour exploring the various shops that you’ll find here. There are many visitors who come to the Grand Floridian just to do a little shopping. This is the Grand Floridian, however, so be prepared for a bit of sticker shock, particularly in the clothing stores.

3. The Dining at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort

If shopping is not quite up your alley, then perhaps dining is more your style?

Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort is loaded with dining options—far more than any other onsite Disney resort hotel. There is everything from a Five Diamond rated restaurant (Victoria and Albert’s) to casual poolside dining and everything in between. While most restaurants here will require advance dining reservations, you can always get a quick bit at either Gasparilla Island Grill or one of the two pool bars. If you want to try to get a table service meal with no reservation, your best bet will likely be the Grand Floridian Cafe (which I prefer over some of its higher siblings), but it’s always worth checking at any of the restaurants while you’re there because you may be able to get a walk-up seating.

Well Manicured Grounds to Explore

While you’re at the Grand Floridian, do yourself a favour and take a walk around the well manicured grounds to get a greater appreciation for the overall property. Be sure to wander over by the marina area out front of Gasparilla Island Grill and over by the Beach Pool at the opposite end of the resort. You may want to sip a cocktail by the pool while you plan your next Disney vacation (with every intention of staying here next time perhaps).
