Girls day out ideas

Planning the ultimate girls day out

Are you planning a girls’ day out? Or perhaps a hen’s day? Then we have some ideas that have your name written all over them.

We’re finding that these days, more and more girls’ day outs – and in particular hen’s parties – are of the classier variety. This means out with the straws and tiaras, and in with the high teas and hot springs.

Daylesford day trips

Many know Daylesford as the ultimate destination for the ladies, and we’d agree with this. It has a bit of something for everyone with its quaint shopping strip to explore, the opportunity for a pamper and soak at Hepburn Springs, lunch at the stunning Lakehouse and a visit to the Chocolate Mill for those with a sweet tooth.

But some of the most popular group outings, especially for hen’s days, are Wine tours to the spectacular wine growing regions such as the Yarra Valley, the Mornington Peninsula and the Bellarine Peninsula.

Girls’ day out wine tours

The Yarra Valley and Bellarine Peninsula are perfect destinations if your group is looking for an experience that is completely centred around gourmet food and quality wine. The stunning Oakridge Winery in the Yarra Valley, and Jack Rabbit Winery along the Bellarine Peninsula (with the most spectacular view you’ll see of Melbourne) are ideal dining stops for a classy girls’ day out. These wineries offer the perfect blend of sophistication and scenery.

The Yarra Valley also offers a variety of alternatives for groups that are interested in more than wine. Cheese tastings at the Yarra Valley Dairy and a chocolate indulgence at the Yarra Valley Chocolaterie can also be factored into itineraries for this region.

If you plan on heading to the Bellarine Peninsula then we highly recommend stopping at the Werribee Mansion and taking in the gorgeous rose garden. Against the backdrop of the historic Werribee Mansion, you can throw down a few picnic rugs and cover them with champagne, strawberries and perhaps a little chocolate dipping sauce! This is a great way to ease into the day.

When it comes to the Mornington Peninsula we can honestly say that this place was made for a girls’ day out. With a wide range of wineries to choose from such as Green Olive, Tuck’s Ridge and Montalto, plus the Mornington Hot Springs, there is plenty to pack into a girls’ day out in this region. Woodman Estate for high tea is also an absolute winner in this region, particularly given its picturesque surrounds. There is also the Portsea Pub with one of the most spectacular views over the bay and a good location for playing any outdoor-based games.

Games, you say?

We’ll leave you on one of our favourite tips when it comes to planning a hen’s party – an activity that your whole group can get involved in. Recently, we hosted Claire hen’s day, where the group took a wine tour down the Bellarine Peninsula. Claire’s friends decided that she wouldn’t be all that keen on a “pin the X on the X” type game, and that a subtle but more elaborate game would be more her style. So the organisers created a list of dares for each of Claire’s guests to play out on the day. For example, one dare was for a guest to beat Claire to the bathroom every time throughout the day. Another was to ask Claire whether her eyebrows looked okay on multiple occasions, and the mother of the future-bride was given the most controversial task of trying to limit how much Claire was drinking and warning her to pace herself at a few winery stops. This was a great game for the whole group to see unfold throughout the day, of course unbeknown to Claire. It was a very fun moment when Claire had to guess each of the dares and even more hysterically when Claire did not see anything odd in some people’s behaviour.

We had to share that game with you as it’s the best we’ve seen and it was certainly a talking point for guests and onlookers alike.

We have plenty more tips and hints that we can pass on so feel free to get in touch. Including our new and one of a kind Chocolate and Wine Tour run in partnership with Chocoholic Tours. Pure indulgence, ladies!

Happy planning!
