Live and work in Australia with SkillSelect program

SkillSelect is a program introduced by the Australian Government that allows applicants to submit their request for a Visa to Australia in stages, so they have a better idea of their chances of success.

First applicants are invited to submit an Expression of Interest or an EOI.

Each year, Australia accepts EOI (Expression of Interest) applications from people skilled in particular fields to meet their quota. The quota for EOI applications changes according to the shortage of skilled workers in any given field at any given time in Australia. All applications are assessed equally by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship and the best are then invited to lodge a visa Application.

How to Apply

The Skillselect Program is open to anyone over the age of eighteen to apply, from outside or from within Australia.

A skilled worker may be nominated by an Australian business, or by a government body, or a skilled worker may apply online through the SkillSelect online service which allows applicants to fill in their details online.

The best way to apply for the SkillSelect Program  is to consult with a certified MARA agent who is certified by the Department of Immigration and Citizenship. They will be able to best advise you on how to increase the chances of your EOI application being accepted. If accepted you will then be invited to apply for a Permanent or Provisional visa.

Why an EOI Application first ?

The Australian government is inundated with visa applications. An Expression of Interest (EOI) application for the Skillselect Program enables the Department of Immigration and Citizenship to sift out those applicants who are likely to succeed in their visa application from those who are not.

This saves everyone time and money, and allows applicants whose Expression of Interest (EOI) application is denied, an opportunity to explore different migration options.

Regional Opportunities

Skillselect offers applicants an opportunity to increase their chances of being accepted, by offering to live in regional areas where their specific skill is high in demand. This ensures the applicant will find work and not become dependent on the state, and it helps governments to better spread the population so that regional areas are supported in their growth.

How many Points do you need?

Recently the Department of Immigration and Citizenship reduced the number of points required to meet the Skillselect application from 65 to 60. So after you have completed your skills assessment and have an IELTS result, you need 60 points to qualify for an Expression of Interest (EOI) application.

Duration of Application

An Expression of Interest (EOI) Application will remain in the Skillselect Program for up to two years and will be removed if and when you are offered a Permanent or Provisional visa. You may suspend or ask for your application to be removed at any time. If you breach the Skillselect terms and conditions, the Department may remove your application themselves.

Invitation to Apply for Permanent visa

If your application is accepted and you are invited to lodge a visa application, you only have two months in which to do so. It is important that you have ALL necessary documents, translations and certifications ready. A certified MARA agent will be able to make sure you are completely prepared with EVERYTHING you need in order to succeed in becoming an Australian Permanent resident.
