Well, As we all know about freedom fighters who fought for the incredible India and in the month of January only, our constitution was formed due to their sacrifices. One of those legends was Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. Here are some of the interesting things you should know about him.

ABOUT NETAJI SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE:-

Netaji Subhash Chandra bose was born on 23 january 1897 in Orissa, Bengal division, was among ninth member of a family of 14 members. In january 1902, with his brothers and sisters, he joined Protestant European school. He was admired by his principal due to his extreme brilliance. Years later, he passed  B.A from University of Calcutta. Netaji Subhash Chandra bose left India in 1919 making a promise to his father that he will appear in the Indian Civil services examination. He went to Cambridge and matriculated on 19 November, 1919. Although he came fourth in the exam and got selected but he did not wanted to work for the British. He resigned from the civil services in 1921 and returned to India. Two years later, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Bose got selected as the president for all India youth congress under the mentorship of Chittaranjan Das. He also worked as the CEO of Calcutta Municipal Corporation. He got arrested in a roundup of nationalists and sent to prison. After bein released, he worked with Jawarharlal Nehru for independence. He emerged as mayor of Calcutta in 1930. He wrote a book titled the Indian Struggle which was published in 1935. He later on accepted for the Nomination of president of India. He did gave a lot of contributions to the Indian freedom. However, due to unexplained reasons, he died on 18 august, 1945.

Some Interesting facts about Netaji :-

1) Known as the Patriot of Patriots

Although  Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was opposed to Gandhi ji’s philosophies, he still used to call him’Patriot of Patriots”. This honor was commendable as Bose really did commit fully to the cause of Indian Independence. There was no sacrifice that he didn’t make for his nation. Till this day he is regarded as one of the most patriotic idols to inspire thousands of young men and women. His political views were complete freedom for India whereas other leaders wanted it to happen in phases through a dominion status. He was even considered a patriot even by some of his rivals in the Congress. He wanted freedom for nation and almost he did not cared for whom he had to go to ask for assistance.

2) Took the help of Enemy’s Enemy

When Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose realized that the British Government would have to be forced hard to leave India, he decided that his enemy’s enemy was his friend and visited Germany and Japan to get their assistance. With the help of Japan he was able to form the Azad Hind Fauj that fought against the Allied forces in South East Asia. Along with the Japanese army they brought independence to Andaman and Nicobar Islands and came to Manipur. But till that time Japan had grown weak and after it’s withdrawal from World War II, the Azad Hind Fauj had to retreat and disband.

3) Netaji went against Governer General

There was one incident where regarded as a brave person, once Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose even refused to obey the custom of carrying his umbrella while meeting the Governor General at his office after being successful in Indian Civil Services examination. When the Governor General objected at this scene, he asked him to explain his behavior. He dared to put the umbrella around the neck of British Governor General and warned him to mind his behavior. Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose was a completely disciplined person and could not tolerate any misbehavior.

4) Netaji’s escape to Germany

In 1941, with a daring escape from house arrest in India, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose went from Kolkata to Gomo by a car and from there to Peshawar by train. He went to Kabul and from there he traveled to Germany to seek help for India’s independence from Adolf Hitler.  He was asked to wait outside Hitler’s office. After waiting for a long time, Hitler came outside the office but didn’t met Netaji. Netaji always went past him but didn’t saw him intentionally. This happened several times. At last, Hitler went to Netaji and put his hands on Netaji’s shoulders. He was so busy in reading newspapers that he didn’t looked up. After few minutes, he looks up to him and says “Hitler”. Hitler asked back “How can you be so sure that i am Hitler?”. At this, he replied” Only Hitler and that too the real one can dare to place hands on my shoulders”. To fool his enemies, Hitler had kept many look alikes of him but couldn’t fool the great Netaji.

5) Netaji’s Family

DEATH OF NETAJI SUBHASH CHANDRA BOSE

The major reason behind Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s death holds a mystery. Some people say that he died out of plane crash in Taipei, Taiwan and his cause of death is burn. Some say that he did not die,. On August 18 1945 . No body was recovered and only some ashes were taken to Japan. Over the years his death has been a mystery as speculations have been made that he didn’t die at all and lived on in Russia and later in India, he took sanyas and resides in U.P by the name of Bhagwanji or Gumnami Baba. He is assumed to be dead in Faizabad in 1985. It is said that Bhagwanji looked exactly same like Bose and his writing matched also that of Netaji’s. On four separate occasions, He himself admitted that he was  Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose but that it was in the best interest of the nation that he stay anonymous. The alleged plane crash doesn’t even exist in the Taiwanese records. Also, till this very day no genuine conclusion can be derived yet.

Facts related to his death :- 

1) Netaji’s niece found his letters out of 2600 items boxed. She identified it is her uncle’s writings. They all were packed and sent to district treasury, Two inquiries about his death were done and it was confirmed by them that he died in a plan crash. But after repeated pressures from his people of Bengal, Justice M.K Mukherjee was asked to end the controversy. The boxes were opened and a large crowd was gathered.

2) A pair of german binoculars, a corona typewriter, Netaji’s watch, five teeth and a silver round trimmed spectacles were found. This so called Gumnami Baba was an extraordinary man indeed. A set of books was also found like the history of freedom movement in India, Gulliver travels, the last days of the raj and Moscow’s shadow over West Bengal. This cannot be considered a type of bedtime reading for a sadhu.

3) When the story of Bose’s death in 1945 reached Viceroy Wavell he said: ‘I do suspect about it.’ Gandhiji also claimed that his intuitions were telling him ‘he is still alive and biding his time somewhere’. Bose certainly had form as an escaper. He spent his life sometimes secretly, from country to country.

4) The last photo of Netaji alive was shown at Saigon airport on August 17th, 1945. Five days later, on August 23rd, the Japanese News Agency announced the death of Bose.

5) No one knows the truth. Was actually the death of Netaji faked so that he could escape possible execution by the British as a traitor ? There was a precedent. Subhash’ nephew Pradip Bose, a well-known writer in Delhi told that the Japanese had announced his “death” in an air crash in early 1945, while he was actually hiding in Japan to escape the British.

6)  In fact, Bose’s followers believed that the Congress Party will never allow the truth about their hero to be known because it is the party of the Nehru family and Jawaharlal Nehru and Netaji were bitter rivals. Some believe that Prime Minister Nehru conspired with the Russians to prevent Bose returning to India after Independence because he felt threatened by him.

7) One thing is sure – if Bose did die in the air crash then he succeeded in his fight for India’s independence. Immediately after the war the British put on trial for treason three leaders of the INA, symbolically a Hindu, a Muslim and a Sikh. This caused uproar. The war was over and so was the period of struggle. It was India’s time for freedom now. Netaji was hailed as a martyr. To avoid further martyrs the British let them off with the lightest sentences, and concluded that the time had come for the British to quit India too. Almost two years after Bose’s reported death, India and Pakistan became free nations.

8)  Bose’s nephew Pradip Bose agrees that the only way to solve the Bose mystery is for the government censorship to end and the files to be opened. He asks why, if his uncle died in the air crash, why the government does not allow his ashes to be brought back from Japan ?. The voice of Mr Bose’group belongs to a professor of International relations in Kolkata University. She states that she is convinced that Bose arrived in Russia.

No one knows if he actually is dead or not ?. He is also regarded as Subhash Chandra Bose- the forgotten hero. In the name of freedom, he made his mark. He deserves to be saluted and respected for what he did for our nation. He not only is remembered as a martyr, soldier but also a respected icon of our nation.
