Copenhagen is the epitome of  ‘Scandi’ cool. Modernist lamps light New Nordic tables, bridges buzz with cycling commuters and ‘eye candy’ young locals dive into clean waterways”

While in Malmö we had to take the opportunity to visit this ‘cool place’ [ Copenhagen ] and “jump over” the Øresund Bridge to the capital of Denmark. Having only one day for this visit we  wanted to make the most of it.

In the morning we made our way to Malmö Central Station. First thing first – tickets. We tried to use a self service ticket machine – but easier said than done. Unsuccessful in that field [ otherwise known as ‘stupid’ ] we started looking for a “human” ticket office. And there it was…. [ hidden ] right at the main entrance on the left [ Skånetrafiken ? – obvious ]. On Sunday it opens at 10 o’clock, so we had to wait a little bit. Finally with our return tickets purchased successfully we got on the train. Trains leave every 20 minutes and the journey takes about 35 minutes. First the tunnel underneath the water and then above the water on the bridge. We were ready for an enjoyable day in Copenhagen. Very efficient. Fantastic.

After getting off the train we emerged from the station straight into the centre of Copenhagen. Our plan was to take the canal Boat Trip which do the rounds of the canals and even out into the bay. We headed to Nyhavn, the favourite tourist destination. We briskly walked there through the streets of the old town, keeping a watchful eye out for bicycles. In some places it is like being on a bike motorway. Nonetheless, quite an experience.  Nyhavn, was filled with people enjoying the scenic views by the canal. We bought our tickets and climbed aboard the open boat. The boat trip allowed us to have a quick peruse of the city, while someone else was doing the ‘driving/navigating’.

The trip takes about an hour. It really is a great way to see the city and it’s many landmarks [ some only accessible from the water ]. When time here is limited, it enables a visitor to have a quick look around. A kind of overview. Another advantage is that one is able to sit and watch and enjoy the city in relative comfort .

The guide on the boat was excellent. Pointing out the places of interest, interspersed with facts and stories. The trip was our introduction to Copenhagen. And yes, both pictures of the Little Mermaid were taken by us. On the same day with the same amount of people around .

After the boat trip we strolled the city and enjoyed its laid back atmosphere. Sometimes we had to compete for the space with KMD IRONMAN Copenhagen tournament’s contestants. Well, in the end we gave in and changed our direction/destination. We continued our walk through one of Europe’s most beautiful and energetic cities. During our stroll, we stumbled across many interesting views – Mr. Winston Churchill’s monument, charming  small yellow cottages and immaculate Rosenborg Castle in the King’s Gardens.

Eventually, we got a little tired and ready for a decent meal. Well, the truth is we were ready to watch Manchester United v Brighton match ‘live’ on t.v. And we did, in a nice sport pub [ The Globe ] that screened the match (yes, Peter googled it beforehand). With a welcome drink and delicious bar meal, we sat and watched Utd lose . But, who cares? Well, Peter…

After the defeat we casually headed our way back to the railway station. It was a wonderful day in a wonderful city.
