Question: What’s wrong with spending a warm Christmas in the Algarve? The answer is: absolutely nothing! There is no shame in wanting to escape the cold of home for a while, and a Christmas among palm-trees and sand dunes is just as good as a white, snowy season.

Portugal, like most European countries, displays a special enthusiasm when it comes to Christmas and the winter holidays, so cities like Faro, Portimao or Lagos are brightly decorated with electric lights, colorful garlands and huge Christmas trees.

Did you think you wouldn’t have snowmen and… well, snow if the sun shines brightly on the sky? Well, that is a decent supposition, albeit not a very imaginative one. Truth be told, there is such thing as fake snow and though the warm weather and the sun don’t really conjure up the idea of festivity, the enthusiasm of people and the spirit of Christmas can still be felt everywhere.

On December 5th 2015, you can attend the Golf Competition in Alamos. If you are a player, you can hire golf clubs in Faro to practice your favorite sport of all.

Also on the 5th, you can attend the Christmas charity concert in the Church of Ferragudo.

Near Aljezur, on December 19th 2015, you are invited to attend the Christmas Fair. Food and drink, handicrafts, carols and a tombola with great prizes are all featured in this popular fair.

The Bethlehem Village will see the reenactment of the scene of Nativity at the International Evangelical Church of the Algarve in Vale Judeu, Algarve.

Restaurants in Sagres, Lagos, Faro and Portimao – and many more – host dinners on Christmas Eve and special parties on New Year’s Eve.
