My recent trip to Old Delhi’s Meena Bazaar had a completely different experience all together. After covering Jama Masjid Delhi I was able to surf around Old Delhi’s Meena Bazaar. Its a shopper’s paradise!
Winter Shoes For Kids
I took lots of snaps and I will do most of the talking through the pictures that I took rather than explaining my experience through writing here. All I can say is, you ask for it and you have it as a shopper. Right from sweaters, tea-shirts, jackets, fruits, sweets, old scrap materials, shoes, toys for kinds :), vegetables bags and everything else. You just ask for it and you will get it here. As far as what I have heard, Meena Bazaar was started years by the old mughal emperors for their princes to do shopping. Its been popular since those days and is one of the famous shopping point for most of the old delhi’s population as well as for visitors and tourists.
Winter Clothes
Specialty of this market is you will get most of the stuff for pretty cheap rates. Even if you are been quoted with high rates you just have to be smart enough in bargaining with the seller and you will end up buying most of the stuff for cheap. A word of caution for visitors. If you are not from Delhi then most of the time sellers will be able to identify you as a visitor easily. You may end up getting high quotes. You just have to react / behave as if even if you are a visitor or tourist you have been to Meena Bazaar 100 times and bargain hard. Meena Bazaar is in Old Delhi area and is very close to Jama Masjid Delhi as well as Red Fort. All these places are easily at walkable distance. I bet you will end up spending whole day if you take a tour of all these three places.
Vegetable Vendor
With the new metro train transportation in Delhi its very easy to reach Meena Bazaar or Old Delhi no matter where you are or which part of Delhi you are staying. Even if you are a tourist its much cheaper and faster to travel by metro trains to reach there rather then spending hours traveling back and forth. There are other modes of transport like buses, rickshaw or hiring a cab but I can guarantee they all will take more time due to traffic as compare to traveling by metro train. I must say government has done a fantastic job by setting up metro infrastructure in Delhi to make commuting easier.
