I have recently been to the very famous and popular Hill Station in Maharashtra which is also very close to Mumbai. Mesmerizing Matheran Beautiful Hill Station in Maharashtra. At the end of my trip the feeling while coming back over the weekend was as if I was in nature’s lap for couple of days.

Getting There:

This hill station matheran is very close to mumbai, about 100-110 kilometers from mumbai. This also makes it a very popular weekend destination for citizens of mumbai. Maximum crowd seen there are from mumbai. Reaching there is also very hassle free due to different transport modes available for example, one can hire a cab to reach directly from mumbai  to matheran or for that matter from anywhere in maharashtra to matheran wouldn’t be too long a journey. The other easy option available for mumbai citizens is by train. One has to catch a train from mumbai’s suburban central line towards karjat or khopoli and get down on Neral station. From Neral station there are about 5-6 toy trains in the morning which will take you to matheran.

Toy Train:

I did not go through toy train which I really regret missing because the toy train from neral to matheran is almost like a heritage train and this train track route was first laid down more than 100 years ago. The experience of going through toy train is simply amazing as one gets to experience the sights of nature from very close range. The toy train passes through the mountains and slowly but gradually climbs the hill top of mesmerizing matheran. It moves at a very slow pace because of the task of climbing the hill however you would definitely enjoy every minute of the journey. While I was climbing the hill by car which I had hired I could also see the train running parallel at time very close. I wish I would have been able to plan my trip in advance to get the experience of matheran toy train too. Unfortunately due to last minute finalization of trip I had no time in hand to book the toy train tickets in advance. I have made it a point that next time I go to matheran it has to be a journey through toy train from neral to matheran without which I am not going to go there.

Mesmerizing Matheran:

Apart from missing the toy train experience I can say for sure that the overall trip was simply awesome. Everything that I covered, right from experiencing the amazing serenity at the charlotte lake to visiting different tourist points, getting to see the mountain ranges from top, thrilling experience of encountering a snake while our way back from matheran when we were climbing down the mountain. Every experience or feeling still sitting in the corner of my heart somewhere, every time I think about the trip it brings feeling of joy and makes me feel more energized to go cover more holiday as well as vacation destinations at the same time visit the same places again and enjoy the fun all the more.

Matheran Garden:

I also got a chance to visit the Naoroji Lords garden. This garden is very well maintained by the municipal authority and you get to experience the perfect combination of plantation, greenery and oxygen generation. Once you visit this garden you get re-freshened and feel really high to enjoy the climate and whether of mesmerizing matheran. This place being a hill station and situated at almost above 2500 feet of sea level you can naturally expect the whether / climate to be great. This is why I wrote my post title as mesmerizing matheran beautiful hill station in maharashtra. I really enjoyed the weather, it was really nice and cold in the night and the crowd in the market going shopping, enjoying food at the restaurants, taking horse rides etc were fun to watch.

Mountain Views:

I would say the best feeling that you get in matheran which leaves you speechless is the view of mountains from top. Since matheran is a hill station and situated at high altitude the views that you get of mountains from different tourist points would leave you speechless. Most of the time you would hear or see a WOW or amazed kind of reaction from the crowd. I have taken lots of pictures of my trip for storing it in my memories and I am sharing a few pictures on this post to give you an essence of what I am talking about. These views of watching mountains from top gives you only one feeling and that is “You are in a nature’s lap”. Trust me you got to experience it yourself to believe it and I hope that every reader of this post gets to visit matheran one day.

Amazing Weather:

Its not only the views of mountain but the chirping sound of birds, nature’s view of greenery all around you, absolute peace, silence and calmness, riding on horse to visit different points (as vehicles are not allowed inside matheran city to preserve the nature), pleasant whether,  feeling of being in a forest alone (without the regular city commercialism), watching the sunset in the evening. All of this makes your trip remarkable. It just takes all your stress away and it’s a good idea to take a break from the regular routine and enjoy the best that matheran offers to you.

Unexpected Encounter:

Check out the picture of a snake that we encountered while on our way back when we were climbing the hill down from matheran. Honestly nobody noticed it but our driver of cab was spot on to realize the snake crossing the road and immediately applied breaks to ensure that we don’t run over him. Although it was just for a minute but we were both excited (to watch a snake) as well as scared having encountered this situation. It was something unusual for us to watch but being a hill station surrounded by forest and mountains on all the sides you can expect these kind of creatures to be present all the time
