American Airlines Miami International Airport Flagship Lounge – Review

By: Michael

Last month prior to our American Airlines MIA-CDG Business Class flight my wife and I visited American’s brand new Flagship Lounge. The lounge had just opened a couple of weeks prior and we were excited to try this brand new lounge.

Since we were flying business class, we had access to the business class side and not the exclusive Flagship First lounge.

The entrance to the lounge is near Gate 30, next to the Admirals Club. When you enter there are three small desks where attendants checked us in, and then we took the elevator to the upper level.

The lounge is ridiculously huge at 29,000 square feet, and when we Arrived at around 3:30 p.m. it was almost empty. There are additional desks near the entrance, and also a newspaper and magazines bank.

As soon as we arrived we took a walk around the lounge to become familiar with the different spaces available. The lounge is simply stunning.

We were pretty hungry when we arrived, so we headed straight for the buffet and drinks. There is a great wine set up with glasses overlooking the main windows, and the lounge was serving Bollinger champagne.

There was also a self-serve full bar.

The buffet was impressive, and so was the food quality. Everything was excellent and we ate a ton of food. It had nothing to envy the nearby Centurion Lounge.

There were some refreshment stations throughout, and although I love coffee I stayed away from caffeine so I could sleep on the flight.

After we had dinner we each requested a shower suite to freshen up before the flight. There was no wait at the time we requested the shower, which was around 4:30 p.m. The shower suites were huge, impressive and well stocked. The water pressure was great, and for some reason my suite had two showers.

Showering was refreshing, and after we were done we headed back to the dining area to meet a friend who had just arrived at the lounge and was headed to London. That’s when I realized they had an arepas station, so I couldn’t say no to those. They rocked.

After a couple of drinks and about an hour later we headed for our gate, which was about 10 minutes away, and arrived after they had already started boarding, so we quickly boarded and settled in for our flight to Paris.

Overall impression:

This lounge is a great addition to MIA. I went in with high expectations, and it did not disappoint. I never thought I would say this, but I enjoyed my visit much more than the nearby Amex Centurion Lounge, which is always a zoo and a struggle to find basic seating to grab a bite to eat. This lounge felt much more exclusive, relaxing and our staff interactions were great. The food was excellent and so were the showers. We really enjoyed our visit and overall experience and can’t wait to return.
