9 Beauty Hacks That Actually Work

Beauty hacks have been around for ages. Some have stood the test of time, while others have been debunked in recent years. So, which ones are worth knowing these days? We’ve done the research and put together a master list of all our favorite Beauty Hacks to try this fall (that will actually work). Here are the beauty and skin care hacks you should know, some of which are new, and some of which have been around since our grandmas were growing up.

Opt For A Silk Pillowcase

For optimal beauty sleep, swap your standard cotton pillowcases for a silk one instead. While dirt and oil get trapped in cotton, silk allows the gross stuff to slide right off, keeping you safe from breakouts. And they fight frizzy Hair, too, so it’s a win-win. You don’t have to buy a super fancy pillowcase; Amazon has a ton of affordable options. We recommend this one here — it’s made with 100% silk, is low-maintenance and comes in a wide array of colors.

Use Tape For A Perfect Winged Eye

Achieving that coveted cat-eye look with eyeliner is no easy task. One of our favorite beauty hacks is to use tape to perfect the winged eyeliner look. This video from Tina Young explains how to do it.

Defrizz With A Dryer Sheet

When your hair is frizzy, run a dryer sheet through it to instantly calm down the frizz. This hack will also help your hair to smell fresh and clean.

Spritz Your Hair

Speaking of hair, It’s a good idea to keep a spray bottle of water handy so you can reach for it on bad hair days. Spritzing your frocks with some water can help to revitalize dull hair, especially if it’s been a day or two since you’ve washed and styled it. This tip works particularly well for curly girls who struggle to maintain their curls for more than a day. Simply spray your curls and re-scrunch them to bring your ‘do back to life.

In A Rush? Add A Pop Of Color

Using lipstick as blush is one of those old-school beauty hacks that still holds up in 2019. If you’re in a rush, applying some lipstick to your lips and dabbing a bit on each cheek can act as an instant makeover. On stressful days, reapplying your full face of makeup isn’t necessary. A little color can bring your face back to life.

Optimize Your Powder Foundation

If you use powder foundation, try this trick to optimize coverage: apply the powder to your face, then lightly spritz with your favorite setting spray (We love Urban Decay’s All Nighter Setting Spray because it keeps our makeup looking fresh into the wee hours of the night). This trick will give you total coverage similar to that of a liquid foundation in way less time.

Shave With Conditioner

This is a great example of a high school-era beauty hack that we still use today. When you run out of shaving cream, use conditioner instead. It’ll provide a silky smooth and clean shave, and will save you from razor burn.

Condition Hair With Mayo

Did your mom ever tell you to put mayo on your hair? You may have scoffed at the idea (mayo tends to gross people out), but mom was onto something. Mayonnaise contains oils that can nourish, moisturize and defrizz hair. It also contains the amino acid L-cysteine, which may be linked to improved hair growth.

Use Baby Powder On Oily Hair

Dry shampoo is a must-have product for many of us. But if you find yourself with an empty bottle of Batiste and oily hair, try the O.G. dry shampoo — baby powder. Chances are your mom used this back in the day, and it still works to soak up excess oil on days when you don’t have time to wash your hair.
