Castle Howard is one of the most special destinations in England. Lonely Planetcalled it “One of the world’s top ten greatest mansions and grand houses” – we haven’t visited them all but Castle Howard is magnificent.

Wow is we said when we stepped into Castle Howard. Located about 15 miles from York, it makes for a great day trip.

With awe-inspiring architecture and grand interiors, the friendly and knowledgeable guides breath life into this magnificent 18th century house situated in breathtaking parkland that is dotted with temples, lake statues and fountains, formal gardens, and woodland gardens. We enjoyed our tour inside the house with guides who include stories of the house, family, and collections.

mportant driving tip: Because many of the roads in England are smaller country roads with many confusing roundabouts, getting lost is not hard. In fact, it can be fun if you can get back on track.
