Pallikkaranai Wet Land is the only surviving Wetland eco system in Chennai city. It is spread for 80 square kms only nowadays. Earlier, it was spread much wider area. More number of Bird species can be found in this marsh land than even the Vedantangal bird sanctuary. However, the number of bird species that can be spotted keep decreasing year after year. Unfortunately, the wetland has been encroached badly and even the Government has constructed IT Park in the wetland. So, one can see many apartments than the birds in the wetland today.
