How to get the the most out of Canadian hostel life

Hostels are more than just somewhere to stay, you can meet new people, save some dough, and lessen your impact on the planet. Hosteling enriches your Travel experience and it does so without breaking your bank. I encourage all travellers to look into staying in hostels.

One of the first things that travellers tend to consider as they plan their next adventure is accommodation. Having a place to sleep at night is pretty important especially when you are in a foreign country.

How do I mix travel with my life?

If you’ve got travel in your blood, then you’ve probably at some point wondered how you can combine your wanderlust with an actual paying job. It’s no coincidence that hostels are often staffed with travellers from all over the globe. Working at a hostel is one of the best ways to combine your love of travel and meeting new people with making a little money (getting closer to pursue your travels, of course). If you’re wondering how you can score one of these dream jobs, here’s a bit of insight from the inside.

Work in hotels or hostels

Resorts in the Rocky Mountains provide some opportunities for work in hotels. Otherwise, you can also work with HI Canada, there are also Samesun hostels who are pretty big in Canada too. Despite the casual nature of most jobs of this kind it is still vital to have a work permit as strict regulations mean that checks are often made on employees, often in places that attract a lot of international workers.

Go stay at a hostel first as a guest, this is a great way to get to know the place before deciding you want to settle there for a while. A secret tip would be: Always give your best! Have a great work ethic. If you work hard then it pays off. This helps when applying for a full-time job.

Wages will vary depending on the type of work, and deductions are usually made for the provision of food and accommodation. And given your situation, you must be aware that the income will most likely not be enough to live comfortably and allow you to keep on travelling. Look at it as a way of cutting your expenses to nearly zero. But it won’t be enough to get you to the next step of your adventure if you are getting short.

Grow your skillsets

So at this point, you might want to expand yourself to any kind of online job. And everyone has there little preferences on making that little extra money :

  • Online writing: Online writing refers to any text created with (and usually intended for viewing on) a computer, smartphone, or similar digital device. Also called digital writing. Online writing formats include texting, instant messaging, emailing. Although time requesting and irregular. If you manage to get enough gigs you can make a decent amount of money.
  • Programming: Join the 21st century and learn to code. Create a useful app, website, or service which allows you to work remotely from anywhere in the world. Not keen to start something new? Find remote jobs in programming. All you need is a strong internet connection and the ability to hold down some regular work hours while you make your way around.
  • Online Gambling: Internet gambling is a relatively new phenomenon. The first gambling Web sites launched in the mid-1990s and soared in popularity, today the new casino online trend is booming. Being accessible by all from any smartphones. It is a great way to complement your income wherever you find yourself. There are several online gambling sites that also allow you to play and earn Bitcoin or Bitcoin Cash, making them a great option for being paid out when you’re traveling.
  • Surveys: Online survey or internet survey, is one of the most popular data-collection sources, where a set of survey questions is sent out to a target sample and the members of this sample can respond to the questions over the world wide web. Respondents receive online surveys via various mediums such as email, embedded over website, social media etc. Less time requesting than writing online, but less rewarding too. A middle stand.

This, in addition to holding down a hostel or hotel job, is one of many ways people can keep on moving forward without running out of funds. Travelling for a year or two without stopping, making the choice of settling down in a hostel the best way to make your travels last. If you see hospitality as a long term career option, this also has the added benefit of preventing any gaps on your resume from showing when you return back to the real world.
