Survivor Tree

The Survivor Tree was planted in the Eastern Air Defense Sector in October 2001 by New York Air National Guardsmen. It was one of six trees that were planted near the site of the attacks in the aftermath of the attacks. The tree symbolizes the resiliency and hope that were so common to so many people on Sept. 11. A tribute to the victims of these terrible events was also made at the site. Visitors are welcome to pay their respects by planting a tree in memory of the victims of the attacks.

North Pool

The North Pool of the 9/11 Memorial & Museum is home to people killed in the 2001 attacks. The names aren’t listed alphabetically, but by their affiliation and proximity to each other at the time of the attacks. Nearly every name is surrounded by someone close to it. Several small display cases display objects donated by families and friends of the victims. The staff places the roses on the names before the memorial opens.

Visitors can explore the museum and its exhibits with an iPad. The One World Explorer app will help you learn about the history of some of New York City’s most iconic buildings. The Two Memorial Pools include two man-made waterfalls. Names of those who perished on September 11 are engraved on the walls, while the Memorial Glade honors rescue workers and other people exposed to toxic chemicals in the World Trade Center.

Underground Museum

The 9/11 Memorial & Museum Underground exhibit is located 70 feet below the plaza level. It contains 110,000 square feet of exhibit space, featuring four permanent exhibitions and one temporary. The museum is open to the public. You can also visit the underground memorial, which includes two outdoor gardens. The World Trade Center Museum is an architecturally striking exhibit that takes you inside the collapsed towers. You’ll find artifacts, photos, and audio recordings from the day of the attacks. The exhibits help you understand what went wrong, as well as how survivors and first responders coped. There are also several films and audio recordings, which will help you understand what happened on that fateful day. There is a video that tells the story of the events that led up to the tragedy.
