Mumbai-Nagpur Bullet Train to Cut Travel Time to Shirdi to Just Over 1 Hour

Mumbai residents can expect an enormous decrease in travel time to Shirdi, with the projected Mumbai-Nagpur bullet Train set to finish the entire journey in a mere 1 hour and 10 minutes, in contrast to the existing super-fast train journey time of 6 hours and 5 minutes.

According to the DPR, “the slow bullet trains will stop at all stations and take roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes, while the express trains will stop only at important stations and take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to travel from Mumbai to Shirdi”.

While the projected bullet train’s fare structure has yet to be defined, it is expected to be around 1.5 times higher than the existing first-class air-conditioned fare for conventional train trips.

According to the DPR, “the Mumbai-Nagpur bullet train will begin at Bandra-Kurla Complex, travel to Thane via the under-construction Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route, and then run via Shahpur, Ghoti, Igatpuri, Nasik, Shirdi, and then connect parallel to Samruddhi Mahamarg, eventually reaching Nagpur. The anticipated cost of the approximately 741 km-long Mumbai-Nagpur corridor is over Rs 1.7 lakh crore. The maximum speed on this route will be an amazing 350 km/h, considerably reducing travel time.

DPR added further, “The slow bullet trains will stop at all stations and take roughly 4 hours and 15 minutes, while the express trains will stop only at major stations and take approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes to travel from Mumbai to Shirdi.

While the projected bullet train’s fare structure has yet to be defined, it is expected to be around 1.5 times more in comparison to the existing first-class air-conditioned fare for conventional train trips.

The Railway Board will thoroughly analyse this DPR before forwarding it to the Centre. Because the train route will run along the Samriddhi Highway, only 1,250 hectares of land will be required.

The projected bullet train track will include a total of 15 stations. “Nagpur via Wardha, Khapri Depot, Pulgaon, Malegaon Jahangir, Jalna, Karanja Lad, Mehkar, Shirdi, Nashik, Sambhajinagar, Igatpuri, and Shahapur are the proposed stations. Thane, Shahpur, Shirdi, Ghoti, Karanja Lad, Nashik, Aurangabad, Jalna, Mehkar, Malegaon, Pulgaon, Wardha, Khapri, and Ajni are among the cities likely to gain from the project”, a report added.

NHSRCL has filed the detailed project report (DPR) for the Mumbai-Nagpur high-speed rail corridor project with the Union Railway Ministry in an effort to reduce travel time between cities.

The projected 741-kilometre-long Nagpur-Mumbai high-speed rail route, which will run alongside the Samruddhi Highway, is anticipated to cost Rs 1.7 lakh crore, according to the DPR. The typical train service currently takes 12 to 14 hours to go between the two cities.
