Costa Brava – Famous coast in Spain

Costa Brava means wild coast and you know that you will definitely not be bored there. A total of 220 kilometers of coastline washed by the Mediterranean Sea offers long sandy beaches, picturesque bays and wild cliffs. And it is the great diversity, the number of cultural monuments, the excellent cuisine, the first-class quality of the services provided and the beautiful beaches that are the main reasons why Costa Brava is the most famous and popular holiday region in Spain.

Part of Catalan region

Catalonia is one of the most economically developed areas in Spain, mainly due to its income from tourism. Catalans are very proud of their culture and language, which is a whimsical mixture of Spanish, French and Italian. Keep in mind that the use of greetings in Spanish can be considered disrespectful, especially inland. Simple phrase: A mi m’agrada el català! (So: I like Catalan!) Is guaranteed to open the way to the hearts of the locals.

A paradise for golfers and families

In addition to water sports and cycling, popular sports activities include golf, and it must be said that golf courses in the Costa Brava are among the top in Europe. The best are the 18-hole Club de Golf Peralada championship course, located near the picturesque historic town of Peralada. In addition to golfers, the Costa Brava is well prepared for families with children. Almost every resort offers many activities for the youngest visitors. We recommend visiting the amusement park Water world in Lloret de Mar.

Historic cities and architectural uniqueness

Barcelona

The capital of Catalonia offers a large number of interesting places. Among other things, you will also find important buildings by the architect Antonio Gaudí, including the most famous Sagrada Familia cathedral, on which work began as early as 1882 and continues to this day. Football fans should not miss a tour of the football sanctuary – FC Barcelona stadium. Extremely rich in monuments is also the street Passeig de Gràcia, which shines the unique Casa Batlló – a luxurious house created in 1904 by Antoni Gaudím. There were many other world-famous artists in the city. Among them was the famous painter and sculptor Pablo Picasso, whose works can be seen in the Picasso Museum.

Girona

Another of the famous Catalan natives is the great world surrealism Salvador Dali. In his hometown of Figueres, just 40 km from Girona, there is a museum and a theater. It is here that you will understand Dali’s motto that everything is allowed in art.

One of the most interesting places in the northeastern part of Catalonia is the beautiful Girona, the capital of the province of the same name. It originated from the ancient city of Gerunda, which was founded more than 2000 years ago by Iberian inhabitants of the Iberian Peninsula. The historic center is admirably preserved. Several episodes of the popular TV series Game of Thrones were also filmed here.

Modern resorts and sea fun

Blanes

The southernmost resort on the Costa Brava has a more intimate atmosphere. Originally a small fishing village, it is still famous for its traditional fishing markets. The dominant feature of the town is the ruins of the castle of Sant Juan. There is also the famous botanical garden Mar i Murtra, founded in 1920. The rocky cliff Sa-Palomera divides the city beaches into two sections. The wide sandy beach with a gradual entry into the sea is ideal for families with children and less able swimmers.

Lloret de Mar

The port city is one of the most popular not only on Costa Brava but also in the whole of Spain. Every year, tourists are enchanted by the long sandy beach lined with palm trees, crystal clear sea, rich nightlife and modern hotels. The narrow streets are full of shops, cafés, restaurants and bars. There is also a range of sports facilities – tennis courts, mini golf, squash and bowling. Near the city is the amusement park Marineland, famous for shows with dolphins and sea lions.

Tossa de Mar

If you are looking for the embodiment of romance, then come here. You can look forward to a medieval fortress, an iconic lighthouse or narrow streets lined with stone houses, which directly encourage peaceful walks, ending in one of the stylish restaurants. You can swim in a picturesque bay covered with coarse sand. Local beaches are regularly awarded the EU Blue Flag, awarded for cleanliness and water quality. At the end of the resort is a smaller beach Es Codolar, nestled among wild rocks. It is this part of the coast that has the best conditions for diving or snorkeling. In August, the popular International Music Festival takes place here.
