If you’re just starting out blogging then of course you don’t really need to buy any special equipment. With a decent smartphone you can make good quality videos with good quality sound. And it might be best to start off this way before you spend a fortune. However, if you are ready to take the next step and invest in some top notch equipment then take a look at my recommendations for Vlogging Equipment for beginners.
Canon EOS M50
I’ve spoken about this Camera before in my Valentines Day Gift Guide but I’ll do so again. This mirrorless camera has everything you could possibly want for a beginners vlogging camera. It has a rotating screen so you can check you’re in focus (and check your hair) when recording yourself. It has great stability, brilliant for filming on the move and smooths skin tone. It’s bigger than some vlogging cameras out there like the Canon G7X Mark ii but it’s the next level up. If you’re a quick learner and looking to progress your photography and videography skills quickly then for the sake of £100 I’d recommend going for the EOS M50 as your starting point. With wireless technology as well it’s so easy to pull photos and videos straight across to your phone or laptop.
If you’re going to fork out that much on a camera you’re going to want to protect your lens from scratches. Make this the second thing you buy, right after the camera. Better to be safe than sorry!
This isn’t particularly interesting but it is essential. If you’re going to be taking video in particular I’d recommend going straight for the bigger size. Works out cheaper in the long run and you don’t have to worry about running out of space!
JOBY Gorilla Pod
You’re also going to want to think about a tripod. The Joby Gorilla Pod might not be what you first picture when you think ‘tripod’ but it’s ideal for vloggers. It’s easy for hand holding, plus you can quickly stand it on surfaces or even wrap it around an object. It’s versatile and not too cumbersome.
Next on the list is a convenient bag to store your new camera. You’re going to want something lightweight easy to wear. Nothing worse than missing the perfect shot because your camera is at the bottom of a backpack. This camera bag is both practical and a lot more stylish than many out there. The material is also described as showerproof and ‘indestructible’. I mean, less not push it too far, there’s a camera inside there you know. But it’s comforting to think someone would vouch for it. Plus it’s very affordable!
