It is said that in the past, this sweet was the baggage of travelers and soldiers to use it in times of hunger and lack of food; and for this reason, it was named Beji. Beji in Kurdish means “to live or to be alive”.

Date bread | One of the most delicious pastries!

This delicious and nutritious food contains walnut kernels, dates, rose water, butter and wheat flour. They use Kermanshah native dates to bake these souvenir; and there is no sugar in these pastry because the dates give the sweetness to it.

Most of the ingredients needed for baking date bread are native to Kermanshah, and for this reason, many people work directly and indirectly for it’s production workshops. By eating each of these date sweets, you have used not only a pleasant taste, but also a nutritious and useful food. Kak | One of the most original pastries of Kermanshah

Kak is a pastry made from thin dough. It has lots of layers and between these layers you can taste sugar, almond, pistachio and cardamom. In addition to these ingredients, to make kak you’ll need rose water too and if you like, you can decorate it with a little coconut powder.

Kak is also ne of the souvenirs of Shiraz too; and they call it youkheh. But the origin of this pastry is Kermanshah. The kak you find in Shiraz has no difference form the one in Kermanshah.

Chapaq Bafi | You can only find it in Kermanshah

This art is for the natives of Kermanshah and you can’t find it in other parts of the country. Chapaq bafi products are made using straw. As you know, the nomads live in tents and they decorate the walls of the tents with hollow nails. In the local language, these nails are calledchapagh“.

Artists create beautiful objects using several reeds and thread passing between them. The color of the yarns in the weaving causes the formation of different designs and patterns. Making products of this art requires a lot of patience, the more time spend to make them, the finer the objects made. Chapaq bafi is even used for fences for livestock.

Most producers, produce mowj bafi (wave weaving) products for the natives of Kermanshah. The remaining “wave” in the term means a screw bed that is produced using wool. Mowji bafi workshops are mostly located in the cities of Oramant, Javanrood, Islamabad Gharb and Gilan Gharb. By visiting the local bazaars of Kermanshah, you can buy these products.

Many people still use giwa as a daily shoe. This shoe is one of the souvenirs of Kermanshah that you can find in abundance in this city. It is safe to say that this province is one of the few areas in the country where you can find and buy handmade giwa. You can also find these durable shoes in other provinces such as Isfahan and Fars. There are 5 kinds of giwa in Kermanshah. 1- rubber bed giwa 2- Ajideh bed giwa 3- silk giwa, 4-under cloth giwa and 5- leather bed giwa. Many tourists buy these shoes for decoration.
