Trees and literature

Just wanted to share some useful links, the ABC has been focusing on trees as part of science week and since this blog has a distinct nature theme, thought others might find these interesting if they have not already seen them: Five memorable trees in books we love, from The Magic Faraway Tree to Too Much Lip I am adding The Island of Missing Trees by Elif Shafak and The Enlightenment of the Greengage Tree by Shokoofeh Azarto my TBR, Or check out this great accompanying podcast from the ABC bookshow ; Trees in fiction with Richard Powers, Hannah Kent, Elif Shafak and more

Maybe it is wishful thinking on my part, but nature seems to be having a bit of a zietgiest moment, so many books where nature takes a rather central role, like Richard Powers monumental The Overstory or Charlotte McConaghy’s urgent environment themed novels. The climate emergency is certainly lending urgency to our engagement with the natural world. Why is it taking the looming threat of loss to make us realise what we have and why it matters?

What is your favourite read featuring trees?
