It has been a while since S and I have visited Queen Mary Falls. One reason is that the falls is a national park so we cannot bring our dog Ada who travels with us most time. This time, B and her dog Cassie hosted Ada at home so we could have a couple of days away. The caravan park is dog friendly but you cannot go with a dog to see the falls and this was our major reason to visit. We have not seen the falls in full flow for many years.

The Falls caravan park is basic, there are van sites and camping sites with or without power. Prices are reasonable and the facilities are clean but a little dated. It is a great place to camp with nature all around, some times visiting you at all hours. The café is excellent but has short hours during the week. They do feed the local bird life daily so you can get some good photos with birds feeding from your hands.

Due to recent rains and flooding causing cancelled bookings, we ended up almost the only people in the park and it was awesome. We had no trouble travelling there but did learn that due to a heavy downpour after we left, flooding has cut access to the nearby town of Killarney and to the Falls. The falls itself is spectacular at the moment with a torrent of water cascading over the falls. The spray from the drop envelopes the whole ravine and can reach the observation platform at the top of the falls producing amazing rainbows which the photos do not do justice.

The birds at the caravan park are very friendly and will raid your kitchen if you leave food out. They do allow you to hand feed them. We also had a possum raid our bin the first night and it came back earlier the next night so he scored some fresh fruit we saved for him.

Both nights we had a campfire dinner, the park does supply wood and kindling at very reasonable prices. The camp kitchen is pretty standard providing a microwave, electric jug, BBQ and washing up facilities. We had a very relaxing visit and will definitely be returning.
