Interesting facts about the Golden Temple

The Golden Temple is also known as Harmandir Sahib or Sri Darbar Sahib. The fifth Guru Sikh Guru Arjan Dev started the construction of the Golden Temple in Amritsar, Punjab, which is located in Punjab in India. Not only people of Sikhism but millions of devotees from all over the world visit this gurudwara. This beautiful gurudwara is situated in the middle of Amritsar and attracts people due to its gold layer.

  1. The foundation of the Golden Temple was laid by the Sufi saint Mian Mir. The dream of making it was of the third Sikh Guru Amar Das. But its main work and design were started by fifth Sikh Guru Arjan Dev and according to religious beliefs, the ancient history of Sikhism is also told inside the Golden Temple.

This temple is established on the Akal Takht. When this temple was built, there was no gold layer on it. The King of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh, rescued Punjab from external invasions in the 19th century and revived it with gold covering the upper part of the gurudwara and making its beauty stand out.

  1. Before the Golden Temple was built, Guru Nanak, the first Guru of the Sikhs meditated on this place. It has four main gates, which open in all four directions. Doors in these four directions mean that any person of any religion can come to this temple. About 35 percent of the tourists come here from religions other than Sikhs. Do you know that more than 1 lakh people come to the Golden Temple every day for devotion and worship!!

  2. The Golden Temple is built in the middle of Amrit Sarovar, this lake is also considered to be the most sacred lake. Guru Granth Sahib, the most sacred book of Sikhism, was first established in the Golden Temple itself. The main hall of this temple was the home of Guru Granth Sahib.

  3. The most interesting thing about this temple is that it is made of white marble, which is covered with real gold and that is why it is called the Golden Temple. It also exhibits ancient historical items of Sikhism, which is seen by crores of people from abroad.,/p>

  4. Another unique thing about this temple is that the stairs here do not go up and down like other pilgrimage sites but instead descend downwards. The entire temple is built below the level of the city. Its texture is also quite different, the paintings here are hand-painted and the artwork is also quite different which reflects Mughal and Indian architecture.

  5. The most different thing about this temple is that it has the largest kitchen in the world where more than 1 lakh people are served free food every day. This food is called langar, which is accepted as a Prasad.

  6. The Golden Temple has grand events on various festivals such as Shaheedi Divas, Prakashotsav, Lohri, Baisakhi, Sakrant, Diwali, etc. Before going to the temple premises one has to follow certain rules, such as taking out the shoes, smoking inside the temple, drinking alcohol, etc. Head must be covered before going to the temple, especially for which Clothes are provided and one should sit on the ground to listen to the Guruvani inside the Darbar Sahib.
