Fully Funded Scholarship 2020 at University of Auckland: The Asian Development Bank and Japan (ADB – JSP) scholarship program was established in April 1988 with funding from the Japanese government. The objective is to enable qualified citizens of the developing countries members of the AfDB to undertake postgraduate studies in economics, management, science and technology and in other fields related to development in the participating university establishments of the region. At the end of their study programs, researchers should contribute to the economic and social development of their country of origin.

University of Auckland programs covered by this scholarship program are limited to the following:

  • Master of public health
  • Master of Science (Environmental Sciences)
  • Master of Arts (development studies)
  • Master of International Affairs
  • Master of Engineering programs.

What it covers

  • Tuition fees at the University of Auckland.
  • Airfare from the scholarship holder’s home country to Auckland, New Zealand.
  • Basic cost of living in Auckland.
  • Health and medical insurance in New Zealand.
  • Air ticket from Auckland, New Zealand, to the country of origin of the scholarship holder at the end of his course.
  • For researchers engaged in research, a special grant may be available for the preparation of the thesis.

Note: ADB-JSP does not cover dependents.

Eligibility requirements

You must:

  • Be a national of a borrowing member of the AfDB. For a list of current developing member countries, visit the ADB – Japan Fellowship Program.
  • Have obtained admission to an approved master’s degree at an approved university.
  • Have a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent with a higher academic record.
  • Have at least two years of full-time professional experience (acquired after a university degree) at the time of application.
  • Be proficient in oral and written communication in English to be able to continue his studies.
  • Be under 35 years of age at the time of application. In exceptional cases, for programs suitable for senior civil servants and executives, the age limit is 45 years.
  • Be in good health.
  • Agree to return to your home country after completing the program.

Ineligible:

  • Executive Directors, Alternate Directors, AfDB Management and Staff, Consultants and Relatives of These Persons.
  • The staff of the institutions designated by the JSP cannot apply to their own institution.
  • Applicants living or working in a country other than their country of origin.
  • Applicants who are already enrolled in graduate programs or who have already completed graduate programs.
  • Undergraduate studies, distance learning programs, short training, conferences, seminars, thesis writing and research projects.

Required documentation

To be considered for the scholarship, you must submit the following documentation in full before the closing date:

  • ADB-JSP information sheet completed
  • Completed ADB-JSP application form
  • Copy of your letter of offer to the University of Auckland
  • Academic documentation – transcripts and university certificates
  • Employment certificate for the duration of employment issued by the company
  • Income certificate issued by the company
  • Family income certificate issued by the company. Must be the annual / monthly income of your parents or spouse.
  • Copy of your passport
  • Valid IELTS test

Selection and closing date

2020 admission

  • Applications are now closed for a study starting in 2020.

2021 admission

  • Study requests starting in 2021 will end on July 19, 2020.
  • The selection for the scholarship will take place from July 22 to September 27, 2020.
  • Successful applicants will be notified by November 2020.
