1. Diamond mines around

There are many diamond mines near Golconda fort. And due to these diamond mines near the fort, this place was also called as “Diamond Capital” of India in past.

There are a total of 38 diamond mines in India. And out of these 38 mines, 23 are located near Golconda Fort.

Kollur Mine is one of the most famous diamond mines in the world which is near Golconda Fort.

8. Secret tunnels and escape routes

It is believed that there is a secret underground tunnel inside one of the durbars in the fort which leads to the bottom of the hill.

It was an escape route for the royals.

But this tunnel has never been found.

9. 240 Kg Stone

Inside the fort, there is an iron-stone that weighs 240 Kg. This stone used to have a special purpose earlier.

At that time if a person wanted a job in the fort then first, he had to pick this stone with one hand.

This was the condition for getting a job in the fort.

10. Specialty of Entrance

There is a place known as Bala Hissor Pavilion in the fort. This place is the highest point of the fort and is 1 km away from the entrance.

If you do a clap at the Entrance it will be clearly heard at Bala Hissor Pavilion.

Not only clap but sound of talking can also be heard from Entrance to Bala Hissor Pavilion.

The entrance was made in this way so that the royals inside the fort can know who has came at their doors.

11. “Hatiyan Ka Jhad” – A 400 year old tree

Inside the fort there is an African Baobab Tree which is known to local residents as “Hatiyan Ka Jhad”.

This tree is more than 400 years old.

It was gifted by Arabian traders to Sultan Muhammad Quli Qutub Shah.

Girth of this tree is 27.40 meters (89 feet). Moreover, a cave forms in between the branches of this tree.

Ticket Price and how to reach?

Price for entering the fort is Rs. 30 for Indian Tourist and Rs. 250 for foreigners.

You can reach Golconda Fort from anywhere in Hyderabad City by using metro train. Nearest metro station to Golconda Fort is Peddamma Temple Metro Station and the Jubilee Hills Check Post Metro Station on the Blue line.

From there you can take an auto rickshaw or taxi to reach the fort. It will take you around 20 minutes from the metro station to reach the fort.
