Beginners Guide To Private Jet Ownership

Private jet ownership is often thought of as one great big problem. The issues that arise with Private jet ownership are undeniable and never ending. Problems such as high hangar costs, engine replacements and many more factors.

To avoid these issues, many company’s and individuals charter a private planes instead and also because private jet charter services provide more effective travel vs commercial flights.

What Is A Private Jet Charter?

In short, a private jet charter means that you depart an airport from a private terminal, avoiding the tedious queues in the airport. For business travelers flying on a private charter, there are facilities aboard a private jet that are not associated with commercial flights. The plane which you charter will be only accessed by yourself, family, business members and cabin crew.

Benefits Of Chartering A Jet?

Private jet charters are becoming increasingly popular, there are a variety of reasons that more people are chartering jets. We often see people chartering jets for romantic weekends away, business meetings abroad and even for sports fixtures. For many, a private jet chartered flights is a great way to impress guests.

Another reason why people decide to charter jets is because of the pet allowances. When flying private you are allowed to bring your pets into the main cabin, avoiding the problems which arise when putting animals into the cargo-hold area on commercial flights.

Not to mention that you are in control of your schedule when flying private. Unlike commercial flying, you can decide when and where you want to depart from. The requirement with many chartering agency’s is that you give 12 hours notice before you intend to depart.

When flying commercially, a major inconvenience comes in the form of baggage-check. Not only do you need to queue for long periods of time, but you also need to fit your luggage into a small suit-case. Not to mention that most airlines now charge for extra luggage. With chartered flying, you can bring as much luggage as can safely fit onto the aircraft. Also, the luggage is held in the main cabin, making it easily accessible whilst in-flight.

For most of the people who can afford the luxuries of flying private, privacy is the overriding factor which leads them to flying private. In an age where information is so easy to gather, privacy is becoming more valued. Private jets are a great way to avoid unwanted attention by at commercial terminals. First, you are escorted to the plane’s private waiting room where you will wait for a few minutes. Once the plane is ready for takeoff you will be introduced to the pilot and board. Once in-air, you can talk freely without the worry that someone may hear your sensitive information. You can act in the same manner as you would at home without the worry of public scrutiny.

The final benefit to flying private is the speed that you reach your destination. Unlike commercial airlines, private jets are designed to fly at a faster speed and climb higher. This puts your plane above commercial flights in the sky, so you do not have to fight for air space.

Private Jet Charter Vs Jet Ownership

In the aviation world, the rule of thumb with ownership is that if I fly more than 200 hours per year, then I should own my own jet. Whilst this rule may be a good place to start, the difference between ownership and chartering are vast and the decision should be considered greatly.

Many people choose to purchase a jet once their company reaches a certain size, or they find themselves flying more than 200 hours a year. Here are some of the benefits and disadvantages when owning your own jet.

First, once you purchase your own jet.. you are stuck with it. for instance, let’s say that you are a family of 4, you chose to purchase a small jet to fly around Europe. This means that you can reach any country within 3 hours. One day you need to go to New York, this flight would not be possible in your small/medium sized aircraft due to the distance. Many airports in Europe have their own issues with private planes, due to the short landing space available. So, even in some super-light jets you would not be able to land.

Buying an aircraft is not a difficult task, some company’s pay the aircraft cost all at once, others lease it and pay interest. However, this is usually the easiest part of the deal. A plane is not as simple to store as a car. For example, the smallest jet that you on the market has around 7-8 people capacity. For this sized jet, you need 2 captains, 1 co -pilot and a flight attendant. These staff will be paid per annum, wether you use the jet or not. Salary only accounts for 30% of the costs associated with jet-ownership.

Maintenance is the highest cost, with it costing around 10% of the aircraft cost to keep it maintained per year. So, if your jet costs $10,000,000, then expect to pay around $1,000,000 per year in maintenance costs.

Chartering is clearly and undeniably the more appealing option to flying privately.
