27th September – Book Review – The Happy Return

The first Hornblower Book I’ve read and I’m suitably impressed and may read another in a few months. The big scene for me is the battle between the Lydia and the Natividad but the book then continues with a potential love affair between the Captain and the Duke of Wellington’s sister. Hornblower seems to ‘snap’ at the crew a lot but they still revere him, so he must be getting something right. I marvel at the accuracy of the battle scenes and the careening of the Lydia on a Pacific island.
