Common Market Belfast: 7 Stalls Of Delightful Foodie Heaven

The Common Market is a popular street food market that brings together the best of local Belfast food stalls all under one roof, letting you sample a delicious range of mouthwatering dishes from multiple vendors.

It’s like the savoury version of Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory – you can have your burger, a greek gyro, and a side of fried rice all in one place. The dishes on offer will have you spoilt for choice, but it’s only the more reason to go back and keep trying different stalls until you find your favourite vendor – but even then, it’s hard to choose just one.

It’s the perfect place to suit everyone’s tastes! Whether you have a fussy mate who only eats chicken goujons or want to eat something that can excite your adventurous palate, Belfast’s new street food market has all the options – simply order a pint, enjoy some great food and soak in the buzzing atmosphere of the Common Market.

Common Market – the new foodie destination in Belfast

Shay Bannon, the owner of the Smash Bros stall, has described the venue as,

“Absolutely amazing it has given a platform for so many local food fenders to showcase the amazing food they have on offer and give a chance for them to expand an idea they had into a successful business!

The Common Market should be showcased as one of the leading giants in a struggling hospitality industry. It has provided opportunities for jobs in a tight climate and also helped grow tourism further within this city!

Everybody within Common Market is very close with one another, and it’s such a great community to be a part of, being a part of this food venture is absolutely amazing! The city centre venue should be recognised as a flagship for hospitality for what it has done for Belfast.

Where is the Common Market?

The Common Market is located near the Cathedral Quarter and rests in the heart of the bustling city centre. You also don’t need to book as it’s walk-ins only, but there is plenty of space available for larger groups.

When does the Common Market open?

The Common Market is closed Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays but open the rest of the week from 12 pm – 12 am. However, food vendors’ times may differ.

Who are the food vendors in the Common Market?

The food vendors in the Common Market include a range of delicacies from all over the world. From Filipino Asian-fusion to Canadian-French cuisine, you really will be spoilt for choice. Check out the seven different food vendors below.

1. ZEUS – Gods of street food

Open Thursday – Sunday,  12 pm – 9 pm

ZEUS is a new street food vendor delivering classic Greek dishes to Belfast locals. Their most popular order has to be the Gyro, hands down. It’s a delicious thick bread filled with seasoned fries and your choice of tender chicken, beef or halloumi – if you feeling really adventurous, though, you can also go for the mixed gyro.

Their sauces are packed with bold, punching flavour – a personal favourite of mine is the tzatziki and house sauce, but the buffalo, chilli, and garlic are equally as delicious! The halloumi fries and chicken wings are also show-stopping dishes, but whatever you decide to go for at ZEUS, you really won’t be disappointed.

2. Oui Poutine

Open Thursdays – Sundays, 12 pm – 10 pm.

Oui Poutine has brought the French-Candian national dish to the mouths of Belfast foodies, and no, it’s not just a cheesy gravy chip, it’s mouthwatering poutine fries, topped with squeaky cheese curds and lashings of their rich gravy sauce.

Oui Pountine

Oui Poutine is a long-time local favourite, having held their food truck outside the Big Fish for a number of years, they have now set up their regular stall at the Common Market.

Dubbed as the ‘hangover cure’, this street food dish will leave your belly full of hearty flavour, and with the range of toppings available, the poutine choices are endless.

Oui Poutine has also won awards the ‘Yes Chef’ Innovation Award and has been nominated for the Food Truck of The Year and the Champion Chip Award. You can stay up to date with them by following their social media channels below:

3. Ball and Roll

Open Thursdays – Sundays 12 pm – 9 pm.

For those seeking adventurous flavour that smacks flavour into your mouth, then look no further than Ball and Roll. The street food stall combines flavours that are unlike no other, from the black pudding fritters to their tornado chips and crispy dumplings. They are a bunch of creative geniuses in the world of unique and wonderful food.

Ball and Roll

A personal favourite of mine has to be their mac and cheese spring rolls, but recently they have started dishing out these polish sausage hotdogs that are topped with crispy onions, tangy pickles and chipotle mayo. For appetising snacks with tantalising flavour, Ball and Roll is the top destination for foodies.

4. Al Pastor

Open Thursdays – Sundays 12 pm – 9 pm.

Al Pastor is the king of Mexican street food in Belfast. Their tacos are seriously tasty, filled with your choice of slow-cooked meat and topped with chargrilled pineapple, fresh coriander, pickled red onions or rich, velvety queso, and loads more options for taco toppings.

Al Pastor is serving up authentic Mexican cuisine, combining sweet and savoury ingredients to create bold and flavourful dishes. Recently, they have just added pozole to their menu, a type of warm delicious broth that is served with a slice of cornbread to soak up that delicious juice.

Another favourite order of mine has to be their zingy elotes – a Mexican street food corn that’s slathered in tangy mayonnaise and rolled in a crispy coating. A bite into one of their dishes is like biting into a slice of heaven, seriously delicious and a taste to die for!

5. Hey Chick

Open Thursdays – Sundays, 12 pm – 9 pm.

Hey Chick probably has the nicest, crispiest chicken in Belfast – fact! Their chick sticks are coated in this golden maple syrup, providing a sweet and sticky coating that you can’t help but devour.

Their chicken burgers are also packed full of flavour, with options like their Korean slaw or buffalo cheese sauce – your mouth will be watering at the smell and sight of them. Hey Chick has also recently opened its new sit-in premises on Botanic Avenue, but the Common Market stall still remains the OG location.

With delicious vegan options also available, Hey Chick caters to all tastes and dietary requirements. You’ll be saying Hey Chick again before you know it. Make sure you show some love and support by giving their socials a follow:

6. Lasa

Lasa is serving up delicious Filipino-Asian fusion street food. The range of flavours in their dishes is seriously like nothing you have ever had. The Tocino dippin’ sandwich – a thick ciabatta packed with BBQ marinated chicken and served with a side of Bistek sauce for dipping, is literal perfection. Their other staples also include the Pinoy fried chicken and garlic fried rice, you’ll walk past their food stall and the smell will draw you in before you’ve even had a chance to look at the menu.

Lasa has been described as a hidden gem in Belfast, and that couldn’t be more true. If you’re seeking serious flavour and tantalising tastebuds, you need to visit here when you’re in the Common Makret. It’s the best spot in Belfast for Filipino cuisine, and your visit will definitely not be the last.

7. Smash Bros

The final Common Market food stall on the list is Smash Bros, but by no means is it the last. If I could, I would use profanity to explain how amazing these burgers are, because I don’t think there is another burger joint in Belfast that delivers the same standard of a burger.

I don’t care how much you love a Big Mac, Ronald McDonald has got nothing on Smash Bro burgers. The stall is a relatively new addition to the Common Market scene, but already they have been visited by the leading U.K. food critic, the foodreviewclub and have received his stamp of approval.

The soft seeded buns hold a thin smashed patty and are filled with a golden, dripping cheese. You can choose to top it off with tangy pickles, crispy bacon or shoestring fries. Smash bros are a pair of culinary artists, serving up burgers that have been seasoned to literal perfection.

One bite into this sweet, succulent patty will have you addicted for life, and it’s not a bad addiction to have, in fact, I encourage it. Show some love and support and get all the foodporn you’ll ever need by following their socials:
