Another Aquarium trip as we’ve been trying to visit as many as possible.
The National Marine Aquarium in Plymouth is run as a charity with the aim to education the public about the diverse marine life and the impact that we’re having on it and the planet as a whole.
Filled with over 4000 animals from many different species and divided into six different zones each of which cover:-
Plymouth Sound : Over 80 species that live just off the coast of Plymouth with a panoramic view over the coast to get you thinking about this diverse world.
Eddystone Reef : Lets you checkout what lies in the deeper waters off the British coast
Ocean Drifters : The moon jellyfish out in the Atlantic ocean all lit up
The Laboratory: A glimpse behind the scenes of the aquarium and the work it’s Marine Biologists do,
Atlantic Ocean : The UK’s largest aquarium with over two million litres of water filled with sharks, rays and many other amazing animals
The Biozone : A look at the diverse Marine animals from around the world showing the relationships between all living things
The Great Barrier Reef : Over 70 species on display in this 700,000 litre tank
All around the displays are lots of information signs making it a good way to educate the kids while they have lots of fun.
We’ve visited several times over the past year as the kids enjoy it and we got an annual pass with the first visit it allowed us to entertain and educate the kids through the year without spending too much making it the perfect place to visit on a cold and wet day.
It’s easy to get to the aquarium as it just off one of the major roads in Plymouth but the only annoying thing is the price of parking at 4.50GBP ($8.30 approx) for up to 3hrs with not many nearby options, it’s also a good idea to take a picture of your ticket if paying by cash as we read reviews online of people getting issued with parking tickets even though they’d paid.
